Does your digi camcorders does this to?

How come when I use my digi camcarder(i got a panasonic) to video tape the tv screen, a black shadow shows up across the screen, either on top, middle or bottom? But when I video tape my computer screen, it comes out fine. (I don't remember my samsung ever having this problem with the tv).

Is it technology built into the camcorder(atleast some) that supposed to deter people from video taping shows or events on frm the tv on the camcorder you think?

glenn: that is not problem of electronics, that is optic problem. TV screen (i mean old CRT screen) flicker, but you can't see it, because humen eye is too slow. There is electron ray (well, actualy three, but that doesn't matter) inside the screen, which lights up dots on screen. It draws every frame from top to bottom. This is done 60 times per second in the USA, 50 in Europe. Your camcorder takes same number of frames per second, so when you start shooting in time when ray is in middle of the screen makes upper part of screen darker. It isn't visible on computer screens, because computer screns use different vertical frequency, so they flicker (maybe not if frequency is high enough, I'm not sure).

Your computer screen comes out fine probably because it is LCD, am I right?
Try new TV (some of that flat ones) it will be fine too.
