Say 2012 comes and goes, with people continuting on their consumerist lifestyles, wars still are fought, poor still starve, and leaders still grab for power? What if the whole second decade (the supposed time of the "shift") passes and nothing changes? What will you all say and do?

I'm not trying to shit on your ideas, I'm not entirely doubting this event, but I am skeptical, as one should be. But I wonder what those of you who are completely gung-ho on this idea will do if it doesn't come to pass. Will you admit you were wrong of simply push the date forward, or something else? Will it matter much to you?

I don't believe anything will happen at a specific date or year or turn of the century or whatever... sure there will be major changes, turning points, for whatever reason (major war, natural disasters, perhaps at some time contact with alien life forms, whatever) but it could happen whenever, next year, 2015, 2050, 2083 or any time really.

I'm not trying to patronise you or anything, but saying something big is going to happen sometime isn't exactly a revalation. [IMG]

man...this future forum, in general, is so....vague....My first time here and I am thinking of peacin out cos people make such big deductions out of minute details...

My big question is: what exactly is happening in 2012? You can't just make a topic and say something big will happen without mentioning what it is...so damn vague!

I mean, what is the "shift" too? you can't assume we all know what it is. In school you'd get an F for lack of description. More detail!

my memory fades back to 6th grade...2012...2012..hmmm....

unless of course you speak of Dec. 21, 2012, the mayan calander or what not and how the world will end.

    Yeah?

Still, be more specific next time, you shoulda mentioned more. not everyone will know!

As one who has long been intrigued by the amazing astronomical genius of the Mayans. And one who has thought about the curious coincidence that their calendar date of 13.0.0.0.0, widely thought to be the winter solstice of 2012, is so close to a number of other ancient cultures' predicted date of some type of changeover or shift of some kind. For example, the Christian rapture/apocalypse/armageddon, and the macro-astrological entrance into a new sign, 'Aquarius', and I recall reading that the Veda's also mention a date around 2010 too. I guess either someone was peaking at someone else's worksheet, or this is a case of mass hallucination of the ancients.
The Mayans, as far as I know, are the only ones to set a specific date, though it seems the researchers cannot agree exactly what that date is, with 21/12/2012, and 23/12/2012 seeming to be the current favourites.
If they are wrong, it won't mean much to me. I didn't write it. I wouldn't push the date and I have never considered any previous date to be of interest. I have no clue what will happen, but if nothing at all has changed by then, I admit, I will feel a twinge of disappointment. And then I will just carry on. No biggie.

Well, since you put it that way.......I would say I am on the side of the underdog. I did not mean that I wish for us to face catastrophe, but only that I would be disappointed to find out that there was nothing to the ancient predictions of some kind of change, shift, new age, etc. The idea that those people long ago were wrong does not bring me any joy, it only gives me a slight sense of being let down.
My personal favorites as far as what they forsaw are:
    1. Some kind of solar hiccup that will have a major global impact.
    2. The return of some formidable stellar object(s), like a comet or meteor shower.
    3. The re-entry of our solar system into some type of energy field, or belt of stellar gas or particles.
    4. The resetting of some vibration or resonance that will change our collective consciousness somehow.
    5. The shifting of the earth's magnetic field or poles.
    6. The visitation of some long forgotten alien allies or foes, who will either commend us on our great historical stewardship of our planet, or discipline us for being such a holes to all other species who share this planet.
    7. The harvesting of our species for food, by some malevolent ET's who long ago set this time as being when we will be just ripe for feasting.
    8. The predicted point of total global ecological breakdown due to our overconsumption and excessive destruction.
    9. The time of some mass societal or mental breakdown when we all just lose it and create total chaos.
    10. Some terrific climactic disaster that is a regular planetary event.
