Alright, I'll just spill it. Every time I get stoned whenever i'm coming down I twitch like crazy. Not just limbs, my face twitches too, and it feels very violent. Once this starts happening, I usually crawl into bed and try to fall asleep, because it's really uncomfortable and nerve-wracking. It's impossible to control, and it kind of ruins the feeling. Sometimes, even though the high is good, this twitching crap makes me want to be sober. I was just wondering if there was anyway to stop twitching, without smoking more, or if anyone else twitches like a nutter too? Sorry if this sounds crazy. I'd really appreciate any ideas. Thanks a bunch!
yea i dont know hun...ive never heard of that befor either. wait till tommorow afternoon when more people have had a chance to read this. maybe someone will know
well it depends.. i mean i get twitching every now and then but to have ti consistently every time you smoke could mean your more suceptable to twich reflex in general, and being stoned brings this out. if it always happens, and doesnt happen to your friends, then .. yeh say so. if it is just common and you dont actually mean 'every time' then its nothig to worry about. are you taking any medication? anyone in your family have any unusual thing like epileptic or have any sort of psychiatric disease? not saying that you have epilepsy of course, but you simply may be susceptable to some sort of related neuro-function
yeah i twitched like hell as wel wen i was stoned but thats when my mom busted me i was done with a blunt by myself and i guess i was scared or something so maybe ur just really paranoid thats why u twitch?
i thinks zachs onto somthing with the paranoia. The only time this ever happened to me was at like 12 at night when my parents where sleeping and me and my friend where hitting his Jerome baker in my room. I was the most stoned ive ever been in my house and i was getting really paranoid about the rents wakeing up. I started twitching and i just couldnt stop. It got to the point where i couldnt even walk and could only lay on the couch with a blanket over me slightly twitching my legs. This is the only time anything like this has ever happened to me.
i use to twitch like crazy but latly i havent been as much the more you try and relax your muscles the less you twitch dont fight the twitching just relax and laugh also if you dont think about it goes away
Bill said some things worth considering, as did zachy in his idea about paranoia. Me, I get body convulsions sometimes, but I think it has to do with me being out in the cold to smoke, you know, like a magnified shiver. I find that it helps to really be one with the twitching, get into it, try to direct it, to stop it. Don't be afraid of it, because that probably makes it worse. Think back to how it started, what first got you going in having twitches every time you smoke. I think maybe you got twitches once, and it scared you, then ever after that you psychologically compounded the problem. Like you lost touch with your body and now it's gone wild, out of your control. You must grab the reins again and take control Maybe get a mirror and watch and feel the twitching, concentrate. I believe the mind is an untapped power, and weed (among other things) can help us tap into it. You just have to relax (that's the main thing) then get focused.
we call it the twitches and the shakes, it usually happens wen i smoke lots of weed or wen im high and its rather cold i tend to shake much more than i normally do. Yeah ive had the twitches on occasion bu tits only been like a twitch of my leg once every ten minutes max so i dont worry bout it
Wow that's a lot of really good information. Thank you guys a whole bunch! Hey Bill, I get what you're saying about the twitch reflex in general. That makes sense. I'm not taking any medications now, and the only thing I know of in my family is my mom's hyperthyroidism. But you never really know when something will show up, right? I'm probably just a twitchy person in general and smoking brings it out, like you said. When I smoke with my friends I don't usually see them twitching. They just melt into the couch and move kinda slow. I've asked them if they twitch and they usually say no. Some of them think it's fun to watch me twitch and that doesn't really help. But they get a kick out of it. This twitching stuff has happened without fail about 8-9 months ago. Thanks for the info. And Zacky, I am usually pretty paranoid too. I've become overly-careful. And sometimes it's a pain, but it's probably saved me from getting caught a few times. I hope atleast. Trippin, thanks for the ideas too. The first time I started twitching really bad was 8-9 months ago, when I was on a public bus on the way home from a friends house. I remember thinking that everybody was watching me, and I shouldn't move, you know? So I was trying to stay as still as possible, and look inconspicuous. But then it just started happening. And the more I wanted to stop it, the worse it seemed to get. That was a really bad bus ride. I feel so sorry for the lady that was sitting next to me, I must have scared the living daylights out of her. I've got a mirror in my room, and next time i'm high I'll try what you suggested. Sounds like a good plan. Thanks!! And thank you Scott. You're right too. I usually leave a window open when i'm smoking in my room, until all the smoke is out. It gets pretty cold, and I usually grab a few blankets and curl up with the cats on my bed. It's hard to get warm though. Doesn't an electric blanket sound like heaven? I'm going to have to look through my attic. Besides the twitching, I clench my jaw too. I don't realize i'm doing it, until I look in the mirror, or it starts hurting and I'm like, "Why is that hurting?" You know? I've found it helps to have something in my mouth at the time, like a house key. I haven't started grinding my teeth yet. Fingers crossed! Anyway thanks everyone very, very much. That was a lot of really helpful information. Thanks again! Please let me know if I can help with anything.
yeah dude i get the twitches all the time. i was thinking about starting a thread about it. I use to twitch only when i was stoned. but now i dont twitch when im stoned but i twitch when im not stoned. sometimes its like a leg, toe, finger, or hand will just twitch once or soemthing. and other sometimes it will be like a constant spasm in my arm or ass.
lotus, i think the terror you speak of comes from being too in touch with yourself and your emotions, so much so that they can then seem foreign or uncomfortable. not being distanced. All i can say for sure is the only distancing i get from weed is the distance it takes to go to 7 11!
Maybe you should ask your doctor. My friend said that he use to have the same problem, and that when he talked to his doctor about it, he just said it was chemical imbalance that would subside over time. It doesn't happen to him anymore, either, so I guess it worked. I use to twitch and shake a lot while I was still peaking just 'cause the stimulus of it was new, but that's about all that happened in the ways of spazing out and the like.
Wow, again. I guess I just need to learn to relax. Good to know it's normal-ish. You all have really good ideas about what causes it. I began thinking it was just a screwed up thing that happened to me, but you guys really help it make sense in many different ways. One of these days I'll be twitch-free. Thank you
The first few times I was seriously ripped, I twitched almost to the point where it looked like I was convulsing. That hasn't happened in a long time, though. I mildly twitch every time I smoke, and sometimes it's a bit more severe. It's rarely been violent enough to ruin my high. Are you smoking chronic? A lot of times that stuff will make you really twitch hard. Even a shitload of nugs will do it. Take it easy -Tokin
I think a big part of it is to be mentally relaxed and in an envirionment in which you feel comfortable before you smoke ideally, tho i guess this isnt as easy if you're at home with parents or whatever. Usually whenever you hear about anyone having a bad episode on any drug its cos they're para or stressed in the first place. Until you know the drug your taking and how react to it personally you're less likely to be able to control the effects. We've all had a whitey at some stage or other, hopefully a twitch is just a different way of a whitey showing itself, I sometimes get slight heart palpatations when my head hits the pillow after a heavy session
i'll have to go with the general concensus here and say relax a little. get in a comfortable position, take a few deep breaths, don't try to stop it. i used to twitch occasionally when i first started smoking and would get too stoned. does the twitching happen no matter how much you smoke? if not try cutting yourself out a little early, you may be getting higher than you realize and just need some time to ease into it.
