I took him in to see his peds and she thought it was acid reflex, all of his symptoms were dead on, squeeking, back arching, losing his breath, gasping for air. She said that the body automatically protects itself, his squeeking is caused when the formula comes back up, his airway automatically closes so that he dosent choke on it. We went for an upper G.I. today to make sure that was the cause and not something else like his esophogus. They gave him some weird stuff....barium(sp?) It was thick and white, it made them able to see it actually going down. We watched on screen his whole insides working, it was quite amazing. Everything went down great, so no problems there. Than we had to wait and continue every have hr after to see if it was coming back up. The first half hr it didnt but the next was plain as day. The film showed it, so we went back and put it up on the screen again and yep, it was climbing back up all the way to the top of his throat. So now they gave us a sheet on how to lay him at night....upright...and have him upright for 30 min after every feeding and feed him less and space more hrs between feeding. Also put him on zantac to help with the acid.So i pray now everyhting will be okay and that it will go away before hes a toddler. :hahugh: Im relieved it not anything severe and hope his breathing becomes better especially at night.............keeping my fingers crossed............
I would certainly get a second opinion on that. I've seen a lot of reflux babies, feeding them less and making them wait for their food doesn't help and REALLY stresses the baby, (imagine if you were hungry and not only had to wait too long for your food, but were not given enough when you did get some) Most good peds do NOT recommend restricting feeding in reflux babies, they recommend FREQUENT feeds, so the baby doesn't overfill her stomach. How is the relactation going? My ped says "In breastfed babies, reflux is a laundry problem, not a medical problem." At least two of my kids had reflux, and they would squeek like that, and there was NO treatment, the doc said MY milk was the best cure, and it was.
I will def take your adcice and feed him less more often. I thought that was strange myself, she told us what you did but the radiologist gave up a pamphlet and thats what it said. I thought it was reflux not reflex, i was thinking it didnt look right when i typed it. Relatation isnt going well i cant seem to get enough back that has nutrience in it. Only a little and its clear, she tested some and said to keep trying until it becomes thicker, with a little white in it. So i try every morning and night, very uncomfortable that pump is. So we'll see at my next check up wich is next monday.
Dakota had reflux also. For him it turned out to be a whaet allergy. When we stopped giving him food with wheat in it he got better. We also gave him something called Iberogast. We got it at Whole Foods. Our chiropractor said it is the number one cure for reflux in Europe. And it's organic. The day after he started taking the Iberogast we threw the zantac away. He's been fine and reflux free ever since. He was on znatac from the time he was 9 months old until he was 15 months old. He's now 2 1/2 and has no more problems. He even eats some wheat now. Hope your little feels better soon. Kathi
The color of human milk has NO relation to how much nutrition is in it. Who said this? Clear milk is close to colostrum and some womyn, most in fact, produce it when either weaning or relactating. Colostrum is very high in antibodies and would be PERFECT for your baby now. Give the baby ANY fluid you get from your breasts. The pump should not hurt. What type are you using? I find the Medela Lactina or Symphony to be the most comfortable (as well as the most efficent) a pump which doesn't work well, or is designed for an already established supply (the Evenflo and Gerber are terrible pumps, and the Pump in Style or Medela Battery pump is ONLY for already established supplies and not for relactation.) I am sorry you and the baby are having such a hard time. Give him ANY and all fluid which comes out of your breasts, even if it is a little bit and totally clear. There are nutrients, as well as antibodies in this milk. Blessings, I really hope things get better for you and the baby. Maggie
just a reminder from your past thread. did you ask your doc about anything you might be able to take to increase your milk production? Maggie said they work pretty good.
don't take a pamphlets advice! lol!!! they're created by 'laypersons' - some graphic designer, not the docs! i do graphic design - i try to be thorough in knowledge of the content, but some designers don't always take the time to research or verify the info.
