Our dog seems to be having a bit of trouble breathing lately....she snorts and grunts and sometimes her breathing seems a bit forced (as if she is "stuffed up") and a bit heavy/fast. It's nothing to do with her breed having a flat face....she has quite the snout actually. She is 9 years old and has gained a bit of wait during this winter...but she is in no way obese ( I dont think she is unhealthily overweight but maybe a vet would disagree?) And she only seems to have the trouble when she is lying down. Atleast I don't notice it at all when she up and moving about. But I'm a bit worried about her (tonight she doesnt seem to be feeling well) and I am definatley concerned about her breathing, what could be causing it (being overweight maybe?) and what I should potentially do for her to remedy this if need be. Any thoughts?

You need to take the dog to a Vet.... Our Dog was having problems breathing especially when she laid down.. It was a tumor on her spleen that when she laid down would push against her lungs and make it hard for her to breath right... Im not trying to freak you out... It could be a number of things... But breathing problems are not something you want to wait on... Call a vet and see what they say... but they are gonna tell you to bring the dog down...

Thank you faerie. That definatley sounds like something I would be concerned about......she had a growing "lump" on her right side, closer to her back legs, which I was told was probably a cyst and nothing to be that concerned about for the time being....but now that you have mentioned that I am very concerned and I'll be taking her to a vet asap. Thanks.

Also, when my mother's cat wasn't feeling well and had respiratory issues, a COOL humidifier always helped. That dry heat may be bad for her.
