Tina Peters is a symptom. Threats to Colorado democracy go beyond her. - Colorado Newsline

    excerpt:

"One of the main vectors of election disinformation in Colorado is Sherronna Bishop. Bishop served as campaign manager for Rep. Lauren Boebert, herself a prolific peddler of election lies. Bishop, who styles herself as “America’s Mom,” is an energetic and versatile activist who can recite talking points on gun rights absolutism, COVID denial and a take-your-pick roster of far-right insanity. Her latest project is to erase confidence in Colorado elections.

Bishop accompanied Peters to the Lindell event and also spoke from the stage. “In Colorado, we are a red state,” she told the gathering, though by any conceivable objective measure the state is solidly blue. “We know we are. And there are amazing people who are out there, they are verifying this, they are going door-to-door, they’re doing the work to prove that our elections were stolen.” No credible evidence exists that suggests the November election in Colorado or the United States was compromised or fraudulent.

Also at the gathering with Bishop and Peters was Shawn Smith, a retired Air Force colonel. Voters might not be familiar with Smith, but state elections officials sure are. His professional stature and technical experience in the military lend a patina of plausibility to his disquisitions about how Colorado’s voting systems, especially Dominion machines, can’t be trusted."

Tina Peters is a symptom. Threats to Colorado democracy go beyond her. - Colorado Newsline

    excerpt:

"The hand recount in Elbert County is believed to be the only one to have been conducted in the state. It took place in May and examined all 19,131 ballots in the county’s presidential election. In a race that saw Trump beat President Joe Biden by 50 percentage points in Elbert, the recount found only three discrepancies, all due to human error, not the county’s Dominion machines. “It showed that here in Elbert County we didn’t have any issues with our system,” Schroeder said."

The only ideas the "Academy of Ideas" are either ancient history, or academic twaddle. You could combine all their videos, chopping them up and editing them as comedy, and see if they laugh.

Trump's clone, DeSantis, is still adhering to his anti-mandate stance.

COVID situation in Florida is a 'crisis,' and getting worse

    excerpt:

"Cases in the state fell very slightly this week, with 150,740 compared to 151,764 last week, but deaths were on the rise. The state saw 1,486 deaths this week compared to 1,071 the week before. Florida reported an all-time death record, with 1,486 deaths in the past week nearly 15% above the previous record of 1,296 deaths in a week of January.

Northeast Florida is bearing the brunt of the state's COVID surge, with Baptist Health's five hospitals in the area seeing more than double the number of patients with COVID they saw at the previous peak of the pandemic last summer.

“Jacksonville is kind of the epicenter of this. They had one of the lowest vaccination rates going into July and that has probably really came back to bite them,” Justin Senior, CEO of the Florida Safety Net Hospital Alliance, told the Associated Press."

Conservative, anti-vaccine radio host dies of COVID.

Conservative Radio Host Who Mocked Vaccines Dies of COVID-19

    excerpt:

"A conservative radio host in Nashville who derided vaccines and spread misinformation about the coronavirus has died of COVID-19. Phil Valentine was 61.

Though Valentine downplayed the efficacy of vaccines and even went so far as to record a parody song mocking them, he reversed his opinion while in the hospital, advising his family members to get the jab."

Are you all blaming Donald Trump for this? Not saying he's got nothing to do with it...I wouldn't know how much...

Yes, actually, Trump is to blame for most of our national and international problems. Before he came to power, our nation was stable for the most part. The party which benefits the most from an America mired in these new Trump created problems is Russia. It's time to connect the dots.

Well don't forget the China dot. International affairs are more complex than Russia/bad guy.

I typically assume it's all for the best. Honestly, the American way of life is still going pretty strong, and that speaks volumes. If we're to be honest with ourselves, we don't really know the totality of what really went on...last night, for instance (hopefully nothing too heavy).

We really can't know everything, for our own safety. So I'm not just gonna start connecting dots. There's international affairs and domestic affairs, and it must be a pain in the ass to try and preserve America whilst maintaining the peace of the whole world.

I think we need to relax a bit, as Americans. But then...covid. What a clusterfuck.

Then again, he's been a long-time opponent of abortion, and in his candidate profile, he says: " I'm against abortion in all cases. I think incest and rape could be on a per case basis but not without in depth counseling."

If there's an instance of someone forcing their beliefs on others, the abortion issue would be at the top of the list, no? Even his above statement is contradictory: He's against abortion in "ALL" cases, right? But in the event of rape or incest, there might be exceptions.Well, which way is it? Is it ALL cases or just instances that HE defines as acceptable to have the procedure? What hypocrisy.

To me, that sounds a lot like forcing his opinions on others.

As for Moore's encouraging his supporters to decide individually whether or not to wear masks, the most significant thing to watch for is how he changes (or not) his previous statements on the subject now that he and his family have contracted Covid. If his supporters see the man that encouraged them to ignore the disease contract the virus himself.......and keep on doing nothing to protect themselves......they should blame themselves, not Moore.

Of course, conservatives have certainly altered the scope of taking personal blame for anything in these times.

I think you can technically be against abortions in all cases while still permitting women to do as they choose...

I mean, I don't know, but it might just be a position to say, "Let's decrease abortion as much as possible by saying we're always against it."

Let's face it, dead babies ain't pretty. We all should aim for zero abortions.

    Here's a couple of thoughts:
    1. If you don't have a uterus, STFU.
    2. If you have a uterus, but your uterus isn't the one in question, STFU.

I mean that we, the people, can still be challenging. And if "they" are trying to take away our liberty, well "they" are going to have to keep hiding in the shadows while they do it.

I don't know what goes on in China, but we aren't unhappy here, totally, as average citizens. I know there are exceptions and injustices, but they're still, as yet, the worst examples IMO.

And the American people do care about each other. If we didn't these words would have stung to death by now.

I know it's hokey, but I'm pretty proud of this country. We didn't do too bad of a job. And we're gonna win -- whatever they throw at us. It ain't perfect, but true love never is.

Well, that isn't constructive at all. Give me your real thoughts, not your propaganda. I know nobody listens anymore, but I do.

Sweet Home Alabama - With all due respect to Lynyrd Skynyrd

Donald Trump booed at Alabama rally after encouraging his supporters to get vaccinated against COVID-19, video shows

Former President Donald Trump was booed by some of his supporters at a "Save America" rally in Cullman, Alabama, on Saturday night after he suggested that they get vaccinated against COVID-19.

"I believe totally in your freedoms, I do, you've got to do what you've got to do," Trump said to the crowd. "But I recommend that you take the vaccines."

The former president then told his supporters that the vaccines are "good" and once again encouraged them to get a shot.

This suggestion was met with boos, as can be heard in a video shared by Vox journalist Aaron Rupar.

When working at Bell Labs, I ate lunch with fellow engineer and somehow the topic got on abortion. I suggested late-term abortions might be restricted to cases of rape, incest, severe defects, or danger to the health the mother. She went ballistic, made a scene. Both sides of this debate are just too far apart for compromise.

Since the issue of abortions are being talked about - will someone please ask Rep Barry Moore how he feels about abortions..............

Alabama Congressman Blasts Mask Mandates Day After Announcing He Has Covid-19: ‘If I Died of Covid Yesterday, I Wouldn’t Want to Force My Beliefs and Opinions on Anyone

Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL) announced on Friday that he and his wife tested positive for Covid-19, but that diagnosis has not stopped him from opposing mask mandates.

“I just don’t believe in mandates from the federal government,” Moore told The Daily Beast in an interview on Saturday. “If I died of COVID yesterday, I wouldn’t want to force my beliefs and opinions on anyone.”
