Ill put my hands up straight away and tell you....i use wax. Not alot but it keeps all my dreads kinda neat. Id love to go totally natural but my work do have a problem with all over the place hair. I want to grow them all very long and oooh so im after some advice to keep them neat so my future jobs of nursing and my office stuff, don't make me get rid. They were born on the 2nd September 2004 so there is definate knotting some parts still not....my hair sucks at knotting! Grrr stoopid hair, but yes anyway they are now 6 months old and i really am fed up with having bands into kep them neat from work. So in 4 weeks my friend is coming round for the weekend to stitch them up. Now i was wondering who knows the best way to do this. I love those matrix twins dreads cos they are all oooooh, but basically i just want my dreads neat with no bands and no more need for wax. Any suggestions? Ooooh im on post 101 woooo!!! give me hugs people!

    *hugs for post number*

the matrix twin i think you'll find had acrylic dreads put in :p sorry to dissapoint you.

Basically i stitched my dreads when they were a month or so old so as long as you dont mind having bits of thread in them forever then go ahead. Persoanlly i dont do anything to mine anymore but maybe thats cos im lazy.

How you do it is get an extra long bit of thread and double it through the needle (so the thread it and pull the bit you threaded through down till its equal length with the other side) and knott the two ends together making a bit loooop.
now put the needle through one side of the dread and pull thread through untill knott hits the dread now put the needle back through right next to where it came out. This means you dont see so much thread after. do this a few times and then after a while when you stick the needle in pull it out of the side of the dread so this time your threading across where you threaded before (so if you cut the dread off you'd see like a cross of thread in the inside :) ) then when you've done just do a quick knottand snip it off.

Dont to it too tight else it looks odd and if your doing it too the roots make sure your not pulling the hairs at a funny angle because it can make the dread stick up funny.

    good luck.

Do you do that all the way up and down the dread or just in part of it? Can you do that on really young dreads (under a month old)? Or should I wait until they've become more tight on their own?

What is threading for? I remeber hearing people talk about this before but I have no idea what you do it for! Is it to straighten up the ends? Tie in loops???

Well i used it to tighten the roots as did my ex. i did it on about 4 dreads and didnt do it again. Where as my ex used to do it all the time.

You just chooce one place to sew it... like sewing on a button :)

Some people sew the tips of dreads to blunt them off but im not botheres with that myself. and some sew in loopes ...again im not bothered.

Mine are six months old as well, i have some very loose ends, i've never used wax, nor have i used bands. i don't see the point really, just let 'em do what they're gonna do. what's the rush? my hair was super thick, and super straight (check out my pre dread pic in my gallery) now it's dreaddy all over, well, except the tips...

Ive had to use wax and bands cos my hair was straight and totally smooth. it had no knotting ability! *stoopid hair*It joins up well though, when i tie it tightly with a band
