Just curious, what's the longest period of time you have gone barefoot? No socks, sandels, or flip-flops...not even for a minute. Last summer I went barefoot for ten days in a row without anything on my feet.
A few years ago when I wasn't working at all I would go more than two months at a time without even putting on flip flops or anything, not even once. The town I lived in was totally barefoot friendly- restaurants, grocery stores, post office, thrift stores, etc. all welcomed bare feet. And I hardly drove a car either- I just walked everywhere in my bare feet. During those years, I didn't even own a pair of regular shoes- just a pair of flip flops I rarely put on. In the winter, I put on the flip flops a little bit more often- not because it was cold to me, but because sometimes people would question me about being barefoot in near freezing weather. But in the summer, it was frequently over 100 degrees F and going barefoot was the norm for a lot of people in town. Sometimes people would ask if the street was burning my feet but that didn't bother me much because I would just tell them that the hottest asphalt didn't bother my feet.
I won't be setting any records for longest uninterrupted time spend barefoot, since I work, and stuff. But I believe I'm surely up there as far as percentage of the day spent that way, and in most time spent without real shoes: even when I do have to wear shoes, it's flip-flops. I go months at a time without wearing socks or any kind of closed shoes whatsoever. -Jeffrey
Had to wear flipflops on really cold days two or three times in November 2003 (not all day, just while commuting to/from work), I managed without when we started construction in early spring 2004 even though there were a few nasty days then... Hm, there was one snowy day I gave a 2-hr guided tour and wore leather flops too, that may have been December 2003 or maybe even January 2004, I can't remember exactly. Haven't worn any this winter at all, so I've been barefoot since after that tour whenever it was precisely. Next couple weeks are gonna be the hardest, we're gonna be doing some outside work and it's still sorta cold. I've gone one other winter 100% barefoot, I'd have to look up which year it was. I think 98-99? So that was a longer stretch, from sometime in spring 98 until November 99. Most other winters I have to resort to flipflops or something maybe a handful of times, it doesn't get cold here that often but we usually have some sub-zero days... sometimes I can avoid the worst days 'cause with my season job I only work parttime in winter but sometimes I still have to go out. Riding my bicycle is usually the coldest, my feet catch a lot of wind then (hands too -I hate cold fingers while riding a bike in winter!)
Wow, that is interesting Amanda. Did you wanted to go that long without a bath or was it that you couldn't? Cheers Mo
I've managed weeks at a time. Particularly fun was my last few weeks of term at university back in May last year. It's been years since I last had a bath.
Why do I never meet any barefoot guys your age (or ANY age!) in my environments? And that brings up the question: Does any of you?
Unfortunately, the longest I have been completely barefoot was around 35-40 hours. Once I actually slept for 26 nonstop hours, then woke up and stayed at home for a while. If I didn't have to work, and it was always nice outside, I would be barefoot way longer. The rest of the time when I am not at work, I am either bare, or in flip flops.
Never met one in person my age, male or female who does it as much as I do. Which is why it was such a surprise to find all these online communities with so many like-minded people. Been round amsterdam recently. A nice city for it too!
I can't say that I barefoot quite as much as I did when I was younger. I'd never wear shoes when I was maybe 10 years old. I hated them. I still do, but with Missouri laws as they are, I have to wear shoes in shops and restaurants (Sorry Ben, but you'll have to bring sandals with you! ).... This summer, if I get a good nanny position, I'll probably stay barefoot most of the time. As far as bathing, the last time I had a bath was 15 January. I had a nice relaxing sweet pea bubble bath before coming back to uni. The longest I've gone without bathing....6 days. (Don't fall out of your chair, Ben...I was camping...) I swam every day, spent most of my time in the water...so I wasn't very dirty. But as soon as I got home, I ran to the bathroom and had a nice hour-long shower. And all was well in the universe once more
You know there's no actual law saying you should wear shoes, do you? A lot of stores may have signs saying so, but they're lying. There are no state laws requiring footwear in stores, restaurants, or anywhere in public places really. http://www.barefooters.org/health-dept/MO1997.html & http://www.barefooters.org/health-dept/MO2002.html
Well then....I'm going barefoot and they can't stop me...Although, I hate confrontation....and getting kicked out of shops...
Myranya is right, you were mistaken about there being a law to prohibit you from shops and restaurants barefoot. BUT... Just because there is no LAW does not mean that you will not be "unstoppable". Many bigoted people do not believe that you should be free to go barefoot in such places as restaurants and stores. They make the determination about whether you can come in or not, and if they say no, even for a stupid and frivolous reason, it's their place and they make the rules. Good luck, though! And we know that confident women get away with going barefoot a LOT more often than even confident men do. It's just the way it is. -Jeffrey
well, I hope I can pull it off....I'm tired of wearing shoes when i don't have to! My university is really strict about it, though. I'm escorted from the cafeteria and the oncampus convenience store if I come in barefooted...
There's no law, no health code rule, and no logical health or legal reason why there should be a law or rule either. The simple solution is to take your business elsewhere.
and in this small town, at this uni, taking my business elsewhere would require a car, gas money, and quite a bit of hassel...No thank you...I'll just wear my marvin the martian slippers when I have to go to the cafeteria or the c-store
the summer break, from my jr year to sr year in high school. didnt wear shoes or flip flops the entire summer. i wasnt working either. just took the summer off.
I spent basically the whole summer barefoot. Goddamn snow! I cant wait till its summer again! oooh! you can avoid gettin chucked outa shops and dirty looks from chavs by wearing flares. I always wear them! No one really notices the lack of shoes so YAY!! tis good. BAREFOOTERS ROCK!! love you all! be happy and FREEEEEEE!! peace x x x x x x x x x emily x
