Nirvana are definately my favourite band of all time (the cure and the doors very close to the top spot). I love every song nirvana ever wrote, and I love every snippet of live video I have of them. I love my kurt Biographies and I love my Kurt Inspired poetry from about a year ago when I had a huge obsession with nirvana. What does everyone else think to Nirvana?
Aye I had quite the Nirvana obsession myself, back in the day. I did a project on them in my last year of primary school which most teachers actually thought was prety sweet, despite the heroin and depression and all that. (It didn't win though, not educational enough ). "In Utero" is their best record I think, it was one of the first CDs I ever bought and it must have got a shitload of plays, back in the day! I've had to replace it twice. But much like you, I don't really dislike anything they did, even though there are less amazing moments dotted about. I don't think they're one of the most important bands of all time though. Which a lot of people seem to think so. Certainly Q, they said when that 'best of' came out they were the most important band of the last 20 years, and I don't buy that like.
Nirvana rock - they really did change the face of music. but i think grunge was born when they came into existance, then it died when kurdt shot himself... the amount of people that they influenced though is fantastic!
its weird they annoy the hell out of me and usually i think theyre shit but i still like them but it annoys me that everyone thinks they created grunge n stuff when really they arent the same and came after every other grunge band and i think they aint as good but you lot obviously do so there ya go!
To my knowledge Mudhoney created grunge...it was the lead singer that even coined the word. But, yeah, Nirvana were the band that got my into rock. If I had to name any band that changed my life, it would be Nirvana by a long chalk. They convinced me to buy my first guitar, start a band, be an individual. I own everything they ever made, and numerous biographies and such. Don't find as much time to listen to 'em nowadays, because, I've heard everything a bazillion times, but still occasionally stick In Utero on, or With the Lights Out to here what could have been if Kurt hadn't "gone and joined the stupid club". I think that they SHOULD have been the most important band of the past 20 years, but look around at the state of modern music, and it's almost like Nirvana never happened. What's everyone's favourite track? My pick would be Drain You, but I couldn't really say why (it was Kurt's favourite song too). It only just beats most of In Utero, which was the soundtrack to my youth.
2 years ago i thought this way,but today i find their music pretty much depressing anyway, they are the band that made history and kurt is a great vocal
