I think that i have made some really big mistakes.

About a year ago i bought a peyote cactus. i did no research and i ate it as soon as i got it despite the owner of the shop that i bought it from telling me that i should leave it to grow for a few years. To make matters even worse, i ate it because at the time i was dependent on cannabis and i couldn't get any and i just wanted to get intoxicated.

since then i have done some research on peyote's native use and the effects of mescaline. and i am very worried that i commited a great crime in killing that cactus in such a stupid, pointless way. i should still have that cactus. but its dead now because of my ignorance and stupidity.

i have wanted to try and reconcile myself with peyote for quite some time now. today, i bought another cactus. but this was an impulsive thing to do as i think that i should have at least read a book or two about it before actually purchasing one. i have the intention of doing a lot of research and really caring for my cactus, looking at it as more of a pet than a houseplant.

but i have already messed it all up for a second time.
i have the problem that my memory is really messed up and i often do things which have been suggested to me in the past but have either been forgotten, repressed or not properly taken in at the time suggesting behaviour to me, and i only remember the thing that suggested the behaviour to me once i do it.
i remember being told by someone, im not sure who, to take a 'look but dont touch' approach to peyote flowers.
i, out of curiosity, but probably due to this problem of subliminally suggested ideas becoming self-fufilling prophecy, touched the flower. it was a pink spherical object about 5mm in diameter. as soon as i touched it fell off.
thats normal, isnt it? i should have already known that - i should have reserched peyote by now, and i should not have bought the cactus anyway until i had done some research.

i am such a fool. i have just hurt another peyote cactus. but it isnt dead, and i still want to try to make up for what i have done.

can anymore enlightened, sensible and mature users of peyote make any suggestions as to how i should care for my cactus? what book and websites should i use?

and do other people agree with my view that peyote, as entheogenic plants, are sacred and that i have not treated them with the respect that they deserve?

I say you need to chill out and not be so hard on yourself. Just give the peyote some love, and stop stressing.

Yes, it is something powerfully sacred, but you should not over stress yourself over the past, and the flower accident.

Keep the vibes calm and peaceful arond the peyote. They thrive fine without human attention. You do not need to water them often. Good sun, and a warm indirect sunlight it what it likes.

http://www.peyoteway.org Good articles, and especially the Link "Plant the Seed"

http://www.erowid.org Search Peyote and you will find everything you need

    Goodluck

It's an entheogen... Hallucinogenic... It's one of the strains of cacti that mescaline comes from... You know, that kind of stuff... :D

It's precious because it can be used as a drug? That's bs.

Mescaline is a very powerful psychedelic drug. It would be a big mistake to not consider it a drug at all.

Hi James, fear not..you're here asking about it so you are doing the right thing. GNRM23 has given you some good links, read up on them.

And Peyote is held sacred amongst many not because its a drug but because of what it opens up when the sacrement is consumed. Like the other entheogens, it opens up the divine...hence the sacred status.

I've thought a while about how to respond to your post. Most of the time, I read the posts regarding peyote, but don't respond, because the vibe around it isn't worth responding to.

But I have to say this: I thank you for your sensitivity regarding what I consider my ~Sacred Medicine!~

One thing to know the Medicine takes care of itself, as well as He will take care of you, if your heart's intentions are kind and compassionate to the Medicine.

I have several cacti in planted in pots (directly from the gardens) in my home for over 13 years now...

I keep them instead of eating them because I know that these plants are part of my family and take care of my home.

But I also don't corrupt my home with "other" influences; alcohol or reefer. Because I was taught by my Elders in my church (NAC) that it's not good and may even be harmful to one's self and life to "mix" influences.

Keep it simple. That is what I was taught. Pure and simple. And my life has flowered into a simple, humble and beautiful life.

Having the Medicine around you in your personal living space is an honor, and I want to say again...Thank you for the sensitivity that you have towards the Medicine, I'm sure that you are interacting with the Medicine for a reason, and I hope that It blesses you in a good way.I can testify to that.

As for the care of the cactus itself. Water it every 3 weeks in the winter, once a week in the summer. It'll respond favorably by flowering, cross-pollenate w/a soft paint brush, the flowers will close after, and shrivel and make and interesting pink succulent pouch, which eventually make 1-3 black seeds...these will easily detach when ready...I store them in a covered jar ( i hope to either grow them, or return them to the gardens some day.)

If they get soft (over watering), if they are happy they are firm and plump. Be careful of turning them out to direct sun in the summer, they will scorch, they like to be behind a small tree if outside in the summer.

    Anymore questions let me know...take care~Succulentflower~ :)

Peyote doesn't have Strychnine in it, thats just a stupied rumor, like acid staying in your spine.

On topic.....it's a plant...it's a small plant with Psychoactive chemicals....nothing more, nothing less.....it's death has about as much meaning as that of a salad or a bag a baby carrots... don't piss yourself over it.

A powerful psycherdelic like mescaline can open your eyes to truths, new ideas, help you think on deeper levels, hear the voice of god, appreciate the world in which we live and put proper perspective on all areas of our lives.

Mescalito has no respect for you. If you wish to regain it, learn to grow and propogate Peyote by experience. Learn how he is used as a healer and teacher, proper ingestion and ritual for the psychedelic voyage. Careful not to be tempted too soon and when it's ready for you, you will not wonder if it is, but know.

It's not like having treated peyote bad is going to destroy your mind or something. On the other hand one can have peyotes and treat them kind and then they do give off good vibes in the morning. It's a neat thing.

You can't get high from one peyote anyway. It takes about ten ten year old or older peyote to get the real vibe from them and the trip. So unless you have ten or more old peyote you will just be wasting them by having them.

It's better to experiment on Peruvian Torch if you have too. They are not endangered. Keep your Peyote as a pet, and use Peru Dust. Touching a Peyote flower wont hurt it.

    Relax Babe, it'll be alright.
