I was stationed for a while at Wright-Patterson AFB which just outside of Dayton and believe me during my tour of duty I took every opportunity to fly or drive back home to New England and civilization :D

This is dayton history, just off the top of my head

    Wriight brothers
    pop top cans
    bar codes
    NCR
    Traffic Light
    UN peace accords at WPAFB
    Airforce Museum at WPAFB

This place may have been uninhabited by europeans for 200 years longer than the east coast, but we still have rich history.

oh yeah i forgot about johnny appleseed and annie oakley
    The underground railroad too.

    I'm impressed

I agree there’s nothing like taking pride in ones own place of birth as I sit here admiring my Paul Revere Silver; Nantucket scrimshaw, the complete works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; Daniel Webster, Louisa May Alcott, Emily Dickenson, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Frederick Law Olmstead, and my Winslow Homer, James Abbott McNeil Whistler, John Singer Sargent (just to name a few) reproductions; after I return from my whirlwind tour of Harvard Yard, The Kennedy Library, The New England Aquarium, The Science Museum, the Gardner Museum, the Museum of Natural History, Peabody Essex Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts, The freedom Trail, The USS Constitution, The Children’s Museum, The Computer Museum, The Worcester Art Museum, Cape Ann, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard Island (Yes, to see my sister) the Berkshire Hills Music Festival, Salem Witch Museum, The Concord-Lexington Green and Battlegrounds, The Old North Bridge, House of the Seven Gables, The Wayside Inn, The Old North Church, ……..

I just mentioned perhaps a 10th of the cultural opportunities which surrounds this truly historic area, each author and artist with his/her own resident or studio which has been turned into a museum...

Wow, and here I am, thinking that the preservation of national history is beoming uncommon. Im also glad to see that there are still others out there who appreciate history too.

Although, I'm not much of a reader, so I am unfamiliar with about the second half of the names you listed.

Let me guess you also enjoyed the movie National Treasure and while National Treasure II wasn’t as good; you’re also looking forward to National Treasure III scheduled to be released sometime next spring

Haven't seen II, but I enjoyed the first one. however, if I see Nick Cage in a movie, I'm not going to believe it like a PBS show.
