My gf was lookin at me today and said I didn't look my normal self. The skin under my eyes is yellowish color. Is that lack of sleep, cos its hard for me to fall asleep...The other night I didn't sleep at all than was finally able to take a nap from around 9 till noon...3 hours...than didn't fall asleep til 4:30 in the morning...and awoke at 8:30, fell back asleep shortly after than got up for a class around 10:20...Now it is 1:10 and I am not tired but dread having to wake up at 8 cos I know it will hit me.

But I have always been like this. For two years over the summer I have worked at a doughnut shop starting at 10 at night till anywhere from 5 in the morning till 10 in the morning. I always have late class during college, or I try to do it after 11, cos I usually don't fall asleep till 2 or 3...sometimes I can go till 4 or 5...

But these yellow patches under my eyes...they are new and my gf doesn't like them...

On a unrelated note, I have noticed I pee a lot...never as much as I use to...but it feels like I have a full bladder a lot than go and it takes like two seconds before I am done going...I dunno, I use to drink a lot of water and this didn't happen...now that I stopped with water galore it happens...I get up sometimes as many as 3-4 times a night...It is wicked bad, especially when my gf is over, but I don't think she cares.

If it is just around your eyes, it is probably related to lack of sleep. If it persists, becomes widespread, or if your eyes begin to yellow, contact your doctor ASAP, in could be jaundice...but this sounds more like sleep.

okay, I am scared shitless cos I took these antibotics for half a year and one of the severe side effects was liver failure...and that side effect is intenfied by drinking....which my doctor warned against while on the medicine...stupid college guy that I am, I drank and smoked pot anyways...

So, is liver failure one of those things that can go undetected? or am i going to know? Symtoms?

    symptoms of liver failure
    jaundice (yellow skin)
tendency to bruise or bleed easily
    ascites
    impaired brain function
    general failing health
    fatigue
    weakness
    nausea
    loss of appetite

However, the frequent urination can also signify diabetes. You should make an appointment with your physician as soon as possible. He or she will most likely order some blood tests.

Also, a doctor does not prescribe antibiotics for six months. What was the medication you were given?

yeah, sometimes abx are prescribed for years...sadly, it's entirely possible.

if you can, go see a naturopath for some liver support.

I would definantly have it checked out, but the first thing that I thought of was your diet. When I was struggling with an eating disorder, I ate a ton of things with Vit. A in them. Too much vit. A can cause yellowing of the skin as well. Anyway, I'd definantly see about it though. Peace

My boyfriend is yellow all over.. but that may have to do with the fact he's half chinese... ;)

Seriously.. go to the docter and tell everything.. don't lie about smoking and drinking whilest on that medication and stuff.. liver failure is pretty serious.. can't it be a kidney thing as well by the way? Oh.. and yellow skin can also be caused by drinking too much carrot/orangejuice (beta-caroten).. that's harmless expect that you look like an oompa-loompa for a while if it gets worse ;)

Let it check and tell us how it went! Best of luck!

Yellowing of the skin from too much beta-carotene (vitamin A) is not harmless! Vitamin A in large doses is toxic (though VERY unlikely from food).

I doubt that you are in liver failure, even with your history of antibiotic use and drinking. You would be yellow all over, not just around the eyes. If it doesn't resolve itself soon, though, I would have it checked out.

Vitamin B can also do it, and is also not harmless. I've been taking it for a while when I had problems with depression, and the doc always asked if there was any yellowing. I had no problems, but it can be pretty bad.

Sounds like you´re having an icterus...of course I can´t make a diagnosis - I didn´t even see you...but your doc definitely should make a hemogram. Your bilirubin parameter should not be increased.

Is your eye mucosa yellowish or the skin around your eyes?
    Get well soon!

I wouldn't take an iron supplement if liver problems are suspected. Supplemental iron is hard on the circ system and the liver (your liver has to deal with all those used up blood cells, and if it is already stressed, extra work may actually make the problem more advanced.)

Carl, you NEED to see a doctor, preferably at a Teaching Hospital immediately. You may have a UTI, in addition to other problems. A year on antibx is really hard on the body (what did you have that you had to take these powerful drugs for so long?) PLEASE see a doctor, you can start with an Internist or a Family Doctor, as you are not sure what the problem is, and he will refer you if it is liver related.

    Good luck.

Your doc also should check your cholesterol parameters (especially LDL and HDL)...cause a disorder of lipometabolism also makes yellow stains around your eyes.

yeah, if it's liver problems, then maggie's right. i just mean that an iron deficiency can cause a yellowing of the skin, mostly in areas like under the eye, or around the mouth, or on the hands. i guess this brings up a better point.. seeing a doc is the way to go, cause you don't want to take something to say, fix the liver problem, if it's just going to interact badly with something else. and yeah, if you suspect it's liver problems then avoid the iron suppliments, but that doesn't mean you should avoid foods that already contain healthy (and vital) amounts of iron.

You are right, lawgirl. Iron in food is really absorbed differently, so even with a liver problem (which we don't know if the OP has or not) food isn't a problem.
