It appears that Trump finally started to comply with the National Archives after it requested help from the DOJ.
One of the missing documents was the NOAA hurricane chart that Trump doctored with a Sharpie pen to try to cover his mistake about Alabama supposedly being included in its forecast track.
Analysis: New poll suggests Trump's 2020 election lie is working - CNNPolitics excerpt: "At the time, 6 in 10 (59%) of people said they were either "very" or "somewhat" confident that elections reflect the will of the people. CNN's brand new national poll asked that question again -- and got a VERY different result. Now, just 44% of Americans express confidence in the idea of free and fair elections, while 56% say they have little or no confidence in our elections. That's a stunning reversal in the course of 13 months. And it proves that -- as unfortunate as this may be -- Donald Trump's election lie is working."
Jake Maxwell of Athens Georgia arrested in January 6 Capitol case | 11alive.com excerpt: "ATHENS, Ga. — An Athens man was arrested on Thursday, according to the Department of Justice, and charged with assault for his alleged role in the Capitol riots of Jan. 6, 2021. A press release by the DOJ alleges that 20-year-old Jake Maxwell "engaged in physical confrontations with law enforcement officers" at the Capitol on Jan. 6, "banged his hands and pushed on the riot shield" of a Capitol police officer and "got into a physical struggle" with the officer. Maxwell is at least the 23rd individual with ties to Georgia who has been arrested in connection to the insurrectionist sacking of the Capitol last year. According to the DOJ, the struggle between Maxwell and the officer primarily involved an attempt to wrestle away the officer's baton. "During that struggle, Maxwell first hooked his arm around the officer’s baton. The officer then got his baton away from Maxwell and used it to keep Maxwell away from the line of law enforcement trying to protect the Capitol building from the crowd of rioters," the DOJ release said. "Maxwell, however, grabbed the officer’s baton with his left hand and pulled on it during the struggle." According to Maxwell's criminal complaint on the DOJ website, his charges include: Assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers Civil disorder Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds Engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds Act of physical violence in the Capitol grounds or buildings"
How many of these people are in Red States that just changed all their election laws and gerrymandered people into submission?
Self-proclaimed member of 'Trump's army' will be reporting to prison. Self-Proclaimed Member of 'Trump's Army' Must Report to a Federal Penitentiary for Jan. 6 Capitol Breach excerpt: "An Indiana man who declared himself a member of “Trump’s army” before entering the U.S. Capitol through a broken window and taunted police once inside on Jan. 6 has a new place to report — a federal penitentiary. His short 30-day sentence, recommended by prosecutors and granted by a judge on Friday, reflects the relatively meager misdemeanor count of conviction for parading, demonstrating or picketing inside a Capitol building."
With Trump's Republicans running for office elections are meaningless as if they lose, not matter how badly, no matter how secure the elections, they will claim they won. In other words the Republicans claim they can't lose, except by fraud....so why even hold an election?
With all these people ignoring a legitimate subpoena - the question becomes ..... why is there NO PUNISHMENT for obstruction of justice or contempt of Congress?? If you or I face a subpoena - and we defy the order - are WE going to walk away unscathed & without jail time?? WTF is the purpose of laws?? I say - throw their belligerent, arrogant asses in prison N-O-W.
And then they'll boast that they were "duly-elected by a majority of the people." Like playing a football game where one side can only move from 40 to 40 yard lines. Cut / reduce voting hours. Eliminate voting by mail. Eliminate early voting. Reduce the numbers of polling places within a state. Eliminate ballot drop boxes. Do away with Sunday voting. Gerrymander districts so that anyone other than a REPUBLICAN has a snow-flake's chance in hell of winning. Legislate miles of red tape for registering to vote, obtain an absentee ballot, or prove who you are. Make it a CRIME - A CRIME - to even give water to anyone standing in line waiting to vote. Maybe lose your spot in line if you have to piss or have a BM?? (Maybe the REPUBLICAN PARTY thinks we'll be shitting extra ballots while in the "porta-potty" ??) Installed NEW "Secretaries of State" in multiple states to have the "authority" to place new electors to override the people's votes and overturn an election. Installed REPUBLICAN PARTISAN poll-watchers and prohibit anyone else from overseeing the polling places & ballot-counting. This isn't a complete list of the roadblocks THE REPUBLICAN PARTY has installed to make voting more difficult. Do these actions look like a free democracy, with free & fair elections?? Or do they rather look like a third-world, banana-Republic, fascist, authoritarian regime?? How do 95% of the citizens in those types of regimes make out?? Do they prosper?? Do they have enough money & good jobs?? Do they have a voice in the governing of their own country?? Do they have any choices about anything .... at all??
Analysis | Trump’s unusually lawyerly response to allegations of destroying documents By Amber PhillipsStaff writer February 10, 2022 at 10:21 a.m. EST Updated February 11, 2022 at 10:33 a.m. EST https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ly-response-allegations-destroying-documents/ excerpt: "He refers to “collaborative and respectful discussions” with archive officials, and he says it’s “a great honor” to have worked with them to get these documents back to the National Archives. In his telling, it almost sounds as if this was always part of the plan for the National Archives, to pick up boxes of documents — including correspondence with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, or a map of a hurricane path doctored in Sharpie — more than a year after he left office. That’s not how the National Archives sees it. Officials there have asked the Justice Department to examine how he handled White House records, The Post reported, raising the possibility he could be investigated for a possible crime. “Adhering to laws and regulations concerning records management is necessary to support our democracy and to maintain the confidence of the American people,” said one person familiar with the agency who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the topic publicly. “Records matter.”"
https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ly-response-allegations-destroying-documents/ excerpt: "Congress is starting to investigate, too. House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.), as she launches her committee’s investigation, notes that what Trump is accused of doing is punishable by as many as three years in prison. There are two potential reasons Trump is coming across as less combative than normal. Of all the inquiries into Trump since he left office — his business in New York, his alleged election interference in Georgia, his role in trying to overturn Joe Biden’s election victory — this could draw the attention of federal investigators. We don’t know what they’ll decide to do, if anything. The Biden Justice Department might be skittish about investigating Trump for the slippery slope it might create for investigating former presidents. And The Post notes that it could be difficult for federal prosecutors to prove Trump tore up documents and took boxes specifically to avoid this law. Trump tore up documents out of habit, and aides said packing to leave the White House was rushed."
https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ly-response-allegations-destroying-documents/ excerpt: "The second potential reason Trump seems less combative over this accusation of wrongdoing is that he needs the National Archives. It’s the agency that would help set up and run his presidential library. The library directors are appointed by the nation’s top archivist, said James Grossman, executive director of the American Historical Association. Trump does spend a significant chunk of his statement trying to accuse the Clintons of mishandling official White House documents. Historians say every president has violated the law on preserving records — most commonly by using personal devices that don’t have to be preserved to communicate. But none has been as egregious as Trump. “Since Nixon, there is no example of a president just pretending the law doesn’t exist,” presidential historian Robert David Johnson said. Trump isn’t admitting that, but he also isn’t trying to fight that accusation, either."
What may have made Trump put his tail between his legs after 8 months of being defiant is the National Archives finally informing him of the legal seriousness of taking documents to Mar-a-Lago without permission, which is easily traced. Such behavior by Trump involves a violation of federal laws that could be easily pursued by the DOJ and Congress, more so than his murky situation with the Mueller investigation and the Jan. 6 riot where he used an underworld approach of directing others to break the law for him that is more difficult to trace.
Trump's doctoring of a NOAA hurricane chart of the federal government itself is illegal. On top of that, Trump took the doctored chart to Mar-a-Lago without permission, which is illegal. Trump also managed to pressure an unnamed high official at NOAA to publish an unsigned letter that said Trump was correct about the hurricane supposedly on track to hit Alabama more than anticipated, which was false. NOAA Contradicts Weather Service, Backs Trump On Hurricane Threat In Alabama excerpt: The parent agency of the National Weather Service said late Friday that President Trump was correct when he claimed earlier this week that Hurricane Dorian had threatened the state of Alabama. The surprise announcement in an unsigned statement by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration essentially endorsed Trump's Sunday tweet saying that Alabama will "most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated." After the president's tweet, the National Weather Service, in Birmingham, Ala., responded with its own tweet, saying, "Alabama will NOT see any impacts from #Dorian. We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane #Dorian will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too far east."
