That guy has lots of company. Well-thought-out, intelligent, and rational are foreign concepts to these people. Loudly barking blanket statements with NO factual basis is their modus operandi. I guess they think LOUD and AGGRESSIVE implies being "correct." (My bold caps & underlining aren't me being loud & angry - it's just for emphasis!!) I'll save my anger for if / when some of these people start shooting.
A question .......... If ANY would-be "tyrant" managed to convince our military to take over the country by force, and install a fascist, autocratic regime - using tanks, bombers, jet fighters, RPG's, missiles, battleships, drones, and God-knows what other secret weapons they might have at their disposal ............. what will all the armed militia "tough guys" do with their AR-15's, shotguns, pistols, and hunting rifles against all that firepower???? Assuming that all our military would agree to begin killing our citizens to back said tyrant - aren't the militia "tough guys" in over their heads?? (and I'm FOR the Second Amendment, BTW.) The argument that guys with AR's are going to stand off military firepower is just a bit overconfident ...... wouldn't you say?? I've presented this very same point to a few on my overzealous friends, and the blank stares and DEAD SILENCE I got pretty much confirmed my point. There was no rebuttal from them.
When I lived in the mountains of Wyoming I had no gun(s). Neighbors were astounded. Wanted to leave me a rifle at least... but the cabin was secure and the bears left us alone... we were careful with trash and leaving things outside. They would grub for worms in the vegetable patch and eat leftovers there... which was pretty far from the cabin. Neighbor had a huge bear gun, but he never used it except to practice. WE had moose all over the place, but you leave them be and no problem. Surprise one with a calf, and then you do have a problem... I did love snowmobiling through the Beartooth Mountains in deep snow... but again I never had a problem with a moose. One time driving home at night I nearly hit one on the highway in a snowstorm... but managed to avoid that as I wasn't driving too fast for the conditions. Everyone up there scoffed at the idea of having to need an assault type weapon...sensible folks, not like urban types at all.
Remember that even the idiot Timothy Treadwell got along for a long time with risky behavior. We agree much more than not. I hardly go about armed at all times and when working on the pipeline am never armed even with bearspray. Part of the decision you have made, perhaps the mostnoble part, is that you accept the potential consequences of being harmed. I too scoff at the firearms industry marketing of defensive weapons, a handgun is not defense against injury, it is a hope that personal offense will overcome adversaries. A vest is defense, a tourniquet is defense, but having a gun will not protect from harm.
You are fortunate that they fell silent. Sadly my acquaintances often speak of owning the left by being better armed. For them I can only remind them of the tactics that have proven successful in defense against overwhelming force, knowledge.Knowlege in chemistry, knowledge in electronics, knowledge in plant medicine... We are a very closely divided nation. What neither tribe does well is persuade. Part of honest discussions any points fairly made by fh is being willing to change your own opinion. Otherwise what we have is debate. The nature of debate is to emphasize ones strengths, while minimizing points fairly made by the opposition. Both sides are entrenched and intractable. Each should be ready to accept that they may not be right.
In relation to my recent inquiry at Big 5 (anti-bear ordinance), I revisited my thinking on home protection and personal safety. I'm of the mind that a person is entitled to personal safety. If the world weren't such a chaotic weird place, maybe this could be outsourced to a security detail funded by society's gambling taxes or something... like a 'police force', only deseigned to protect the interest of an individual. And I thought a .22 might make me feel safe... not like the hand-cannon from the bear , but something less lethal and less liable to blow off a lung if aimed at a human's chest.
Do these fire-breathers think they are the only ones armed??? I know LOTS of people on the left - Dems, left-leaners, however you want to tag them - who are well-armed and practice shoot regularly. If these militia-type, right-wing, outer-fringe nut-jobs think they'll storm the country without shedding tanker-loads of their OWN BLOOD - they're in for a big surprise. AND - not all military members are bloodthirsty, right-wing fringe folks either, so those CONSTITUTION-DEFENDING, HONORABLE soldiers will be shooting at the neo-Nazi fringe groups too. Today - Adam Kinzinger, the ex-military Republican (recently censured by his own party) with the SPINE and INTEGRITY to call out T**** and his "BIG LIE" - said he believes that if a civil war broke out in the U.S., it'll be "targeted assassinations" rather than a blue-vs.-gray type of 1861. What the fascist-loving, bloodthirsty, neo-Nazi's need to remember is ....... that works in 2 directions.
The entire legacy media is nothing but entertainment. Hype, sensationalism, appealing to a base, brainwashing...
That was a tragic incident. The girl was running away and he tracked her down and shot her in cold blood. People had warned authorities about that guy being wacky and confrontational, and the authorities had spoken with him not long before he murdered those people. But armed with a knife he would have used that instead. It's the Indian, not the arrow. If someone's open carrying on the trail, they probably have a bold personality, just guessing. I would exercise constraint, also, around such an individual. But I wouldn't know whether I'd feel comfortable interacting with that person until I'd assessed their demeanor. And not to be sexist but if I saw a woman open carrying, I'd be more likely to approach. (and less likely to be concerned she may just be a whacko)
People do tell me that the sound of a shotgun being pumped before shooting is enough to scare off anyone. But I don't every want to be in such a position as to try that theory out in real life.
I'm not being condescending or patronizing, I just see where you're coming from. And you've confirmed my expectations. You get your news from one side, essentially the same source, and you don't like considering opposing opinions. If that's who you want to be, it doesn't hurt me. But more people are waking up to the reality that legacy news is just an outlet for political shaping, and if they don't look at both sides then they're much more likely to get caught by unintended consequences.
And FOX isn't biased????? Their own corporate lawyers declared in Federal court that Fox isn't objective journalism - saying they're "opinion TV" with some sensationalistic anchors and contributors. And they further stated that anyone with common sense should see that. Those lawyers said that as part of their defense of statements made by FOX'S TV personalities that claimed Dominion voting machines were "rigged" to give votes to Biden. Dominion sued Fox to the tune of multiple $$$BILLIONS for defamation - and those were the statements (see above) made by Fox's own lawyers. When their own lawyers are saying Fox's "talking heads" are NOT stating objective, fact-based journalism - how does ANYONE continue to defend Fox as "real, factual news" ?????????? Fox's own lawyers declared they AREN'T.
I have a 30-30. They're slow with a quickly dropping bullet. Fine if the deer are close but if they're a couple hundred yards out there's faster, flatter tools for that. They're less popular now because of better alternatives. The reason for a magazine is not to keep blasting holes in one's game, it's to give us at least the possibility of being able to take that second shot if we miss on the first one and the opportunity presents. Like the deer might startle, run a short way, then look around for the source of the sound. Or we missed the bird in the air on the first shot and it's still in clear range. People I know hunt turkey with rifle, not shotgun. They're pretty much ground creatures in the woods.
I have. Someone tried to run me off the road several times one night - for God knows what reason - and had the gall (stupidity) to chase me home - at about 80 mph - and then try to enter my house. I made it inside in time to grab my loaded 12 ga. as this asshole was coming up my private-property sidewalk to my door. He opened the storm door and tried to open the inside door - when I racked a shell into the chamber and pointed it at his head. Barrel was about 3 ft. from his face. Up went his hands as he slowly backed away from my door while stammering "I just wanted to know where to get some gas." He ran back to his vehicle and raced out of the neighborhood. He came trigger-close to losing his whole head that night if he'd have entered my house. I called the police and told them the whole story. They came to my house to keep an eye out in case that asshole came back. I got no charges - or even a warning. They said I had a right to defend myself and my home. I have no idea what the hell was in his head that he decided to try to run me off the road in the first place. NEVER THINK "It won't happen to me." It can happen very quickly .... for no apparent reason.
