We're doing a blitz-trip in the Spring. Going to catch a show at the Milkweg, check out A'Dam the next day and then hit the train to Hamburg the following day for another show. Basically, we get 2 days to try to imbibe as much as possible and, naturally, we want to hit the best spots that we can. These posts, other than being pretty entertaining, have also been very informative and we have some good ideas of where to go while in A'Dam. Thanks!
Now, the reason for the thread is....Can anyone advise me whether it would be more economical to purchase the train tickets via internet before we go? Is it likely at all that we couldn't get seats on a train to Hamburg after we get there in case it would cost less? Finally, how much trouble am I asking for if I try to take 2 days' worth of smoke from A'Dam to Hamburg on the train?

    Thanks for any advice

    Hi,
I think it's no problem to buy the trainticket at Central Station, there are so many trains going to Germany. You only have chance to get a cheap chair when you book 2 months in advance. I don't know if it's possible to book it on internet, I don't think so.
If it's worth to travel with something to smoke? My opinion is that you trip will be so stressful. Hamburg have loads of smoke too.
    Have fun.

If you wish to purchase your tickets in centraal station just walk upstairs at track #1 on your left as you enter the station. Or take the very wide stairs [next to the taxi stand] in the front of centraal station to the international train area to purchase your ticket to Hamburg for a service charge of 50 cents. If you wish to purchase your international ticket over the internet use Thalys and transfer in Brussels to "Koln" that's pronounced "Cologne" in english. ;) Trains run about every thirty minutes from Koln to Hamburg. There is no service charge associated with a internet purchase of international train tickets that I am aware of. And the last time I was in Hamburg [four years ago] the hash was 5 marks a gram for really good Moroccan Cream. http://www.thalys.com/be/fr/welcome
