hey, i have been to many festies, but this is my first roo. I have a couple questions for some of you vets. 1. I have a really nice guitar and a old beater guitar that sounds like ass. I usually roll with my shit guitar to festivals, but I want to bring my good one so bad!! I know i can just lock it in the car when it is not in use, but I am worried about my axe sitting in the 100 degree car!! Should i just bring the beater, and deal with the shitty sound so my baby is safe back at home?? 2. I plan to bring tons of beer and food. Should I get everything taken care of before I leave Ohio?? I was thinking about stopping at a walmart close to manchester or something, so I could maximize coldness of food/beer and have fresh ice for when i make it to the roo. I know there is a walmart in manchester that people have been talking about prepartying there wed night/ thurs morn. How do you get to this walmart in relation to the highway directions to the roo. It says exit 112 or whatever goes directly to the venue, so would i have to get off earlier to make it to the Mart, or perhaps get off well before the traffic jam ensues?? 3. Also, in regards to the traffic jam; When does the jam usually start ?? Thursday afternoon? or even earlier? I have been trying to get my buddies to come early so we can leave wed. night, but i dont think we will make it out of here until thursday morning. So if I arrive at like 2 or 3 thurs afternoon, am I going to probly be in the thick of it?? Would it be worth my while to persuade my friends to head out wednesday night?? - Eric
great questions.. I wish I could answer you but this will be my first roo too.... I'm very curious to find out when the big traffic jam usually starts as well cause we're thinking of getting there as early as possible to avoid it... another question for anyone who knows: is the walmart open 24 hours?
bonnaroo answers..... 1. there were no reported thefts that i know of last year....so i think its your judgement whether or not to bring the guitar....you could always stick it in your tent and get a little tent lock....that way....it wouldn't be getting quite as hot.... 2. the food situation.....we stopped somewhere in kentucky, coming from illinois, and got some perishables and then stopped at a gas station not too far away from the site to get beer....whatever works for you man..... 3. ah...the traffic...last year....we moved a mile an hour....four miles in four hours....this was thursday around noon i think?...don't remember for sure.....the traffic jam doesn't start until you get near the exit....the traffic will seem like nothing when you get into the site....its all worth the experience.....
This is my first Bonnaroo and I'm hoping that traffic isnt anything like the traffic to It in Maine. It took us 15 hrs to get to Maine, and another 18 or so to go 15 miles. It was insane. Not to mention my friends 2 kids were in the van too... lol. This year I'm going with people that have gone before, so they know what to expect more than me... im so excited tho, I can't wait.
the phish show in maine's traffic was insane. my friend tori said that bonnaroo was more organized with traffic and everything than the IT show. I'm leaving tonight for my moms, then taking off first thing in the morning to head to roo. see ya all theres peace and love
1. I have heard of coolers, bags of clothing and other things being stolen last year and the year before. I did not have anything stolen from me but I guess it depends on where you are camped. If you are in a high traffic area your stuff is at risk. I would just bring the beater. It gets very hot. That is less stress on you worrying about your baby all weekend. 2. The Wal-Mart is right on the way. I don't remember exactly where it was at but both years we stopped there. I think I could see it from the interstate or there was a sign for it. 3. Traffic jam starts early Thursday morning and goes till friday. No matter what you are going to get into a jam. It is not bad it is a total party. Get out of your car meet your neighbors. The people that are in that jam with you are going to be camped near you.
1. The only answer I have is don't bring your good guitar. The heat from it sitting in your car or tent can bow the neck. My cousin won't let me bring a guitar to Wakarusa. My uncle owns The Guitar Factory in Orlando, FL, and my cousin works for him. http://www.guitarfactory.us They say that 1 out of 3 messed up guitars were left in a car. After they warp, it will never stay in tune. Just thought I would let you know, bring the beater.
thanks for thee answers guys!! I knowww i have to bring the beater guitar!! Boohoo but at least my pride and joy will be safe and sound en mi apartamento. See y'all at the fountain, and please have a safe trip!! watchout for jonny law if you are rollin shady !!!! --- eric
