As a direct result of humanitys' inabililty to reverse its accelerating technological advancement as its means for acquiring immense wealth and species supremacy, the Eco-Sysyem, acting on behalf of Mother Earth, hereby issues a writ of Notice of Termination of its services rendered: namely, life support systems capable of sustaining human existence. This act of termination is a retaliatory measure by Mother Earth because of humanitys' failure in exercising its consciousness to live in harmony with Her eco-systems.

The termination is issued in direct response to the senseless overkill relationship humanity has demonstrated towards life on Earth; overkill in the form of extinction of untold species of wildlife, exploitation of Earths lands and forests, contamination of Earths rivers, lakes and oceans, and pollution of the air as a result of greed and materialism. Due to humanitys' mining, forestry and industrialization the overall quality of life on Earth has declined and humankind has paid such destruction little attention.

The application and progression of the Techno-Machine has raped, gouged, scarred, infected and otherwise deteriorated the entire beauty of Earths' natural environment. This is an unacceptable crime against Mother Earth. Furthermore, humanitys' insatiable greed and quest for eminence has caused immense suffering, oppression and warfare upon the human species, bringing poverty, injury and death, thereby destroying the liberty and freedom essential to the developement and well-being of individual and collective awareness.

The Eco-System, thereby announces that as a result of having been depleted of nearly all Her natural sustenance by humanitys' ignorant egotism, Mother Earth, has fallen victim to malignant disease and no longer possesses the strength to battle against such attacks. In Her present state of illness and decay, She, can no longer regenerate and support the life systems necessary for human existence.

Mother Earth, must protect Herself, from human recklessness. Due to the incompetence of humanity in abusing the balancing of life suitable to all living creation, the Eco-System has been instructed to administer Mother Earths' decision to relinquish Her tasks as Provider of Life, for the human species. With a vision of a better future to be established on Her one day, Mother Earth asks all individuals capable of mature contemplation to humbly accept Her decision and to recognize humankinds total responsibility in causing the collapse and destruction of Her gift of life.

The computer you're using to send these messages is the direct product of the "accelerating technology" you despise.

Every society will pollute as it industrializes. That's just a fact of civilization. It's also a fact of civilization that this pollution will not continue forever. Advanced-technology industries typically pollute LESS than intermediate-technology industries, and will eventually even give us the ability to REVERSE environmental degradation.

Therefore, rather than trying to put the brakes on technology, the best thing for the environment would be to accelerate it as quickly as possible.

 

there will be no environment left if we accelerate so why would the industies even care to fix anything that they ruined it is a never ending industry it will not

Did you read a word of what I just wrote? Cutting-edge technologies today produce LESS pollution than old-school industries.

Because environmental cleanup can eventually become a profitable industry, just like any other.

This is a naive view. To want to stop developing technology (such as bioengineering, nanotechnology, and nuclear power - all of which would be great for the environment) because of old and soon-to-be-obsolete technology (such as oil power, automobiles, and manufacturing) is just silly.

We reached the high point of annual environmental pollution per capita decades ago. By 2020, we'll start seeing a sharp DECLINE in the amount of pollution in modernized countries...BECAUSE of the accelerating pace of technology.

yes civilisations in the past did damage, but i believe it has been noted that more damage has been done in the last century than all of those civilisations combined.

 

Exactly. The past century was bad for the environment. So what makes everyone think that this is a trend, rather than an anomaly? Industrialization requires pollution. Moving AWAY from industrialization toward more advanced sciences (as is beginning to happen in North America and Europe) requires less pollution.

The Western world has already reached its peak in terms of annual amount of pollution. While the world as a whole hasn't quite peaked yet, it will do so in the near future (no more than 20 years away).

Taking a luddite stance toward developing new technology won't solve our pollution problems; it will aggravate them.

 

new technology is definitely a good thing for the environment. once we get passed the focil fuel age, we will start using clean, plentiful and most importnatly RENEWABLE engergy sources such as hydrogen. every step we take foward in the technological world from here on out will have a positive effect on Gaia

 

Let's look at the pros and cons to all of those technologies I mentioned:

Bioengineering:
PROS-
Healthier humans, animals, and plants
Disease resistant crops
More fertile farmland
Less land necessary for any given amount of produce
New types of fruits, vegetables, and crops that do not yet exist at all
Reintroduction of endangered, or even extinct, species into the wild

CONS-
Vague, unfounded fears about "playing God," as though destroying ecosystems in the first place wasn't playing God...

Nanotechnology:
PROS-
Healthier humans, animals, and plants
Nanobots to clean up the atmosphere, the water supply, landfills, and nuclear waste
Cell repair machines
Neural enhancements

CONS-
Vague, unfounded fears about "gray goo," which have been thoroughly debunked as impossible (or at least highly improbable) time and time again

Nuclear power:
PROS-
Clean, safe, reliable energy
Eventually cheaper to produce than coal power
Can be built in isolated areas
Virtually inexhaustible supply of necessary raw materials (water), once we switch to fusion

CONS-
Vague, unfounded fears about "meltdowns," which while possible, are unlikely in light of probable regulations.

 

Well said. I don't understand why some people want to give up everything we humans have accomplished to reduce the amount of pollution, instead of just pushing a little bit harder to make it over the hump.

21st century technology will be great for the environment, to say nothing of benefitting humans.

Agreed. Kandahar, if you're going to list pros and cons, dont' be such an asshole about it and write off all the cons and vague and unfounded; there are REAL cons to those things and if you fail to at least recognize them, you are an idiot.

There are NO cons to nuclear fusion. None. While there are some slight risks with biotechnology and nanotechnology, they pale in comparison to the good that they can bring about.

Technology is the application of knowledge... how can knowledge be bad?!

Of course technology can be misused,

but without technology, we wouldn't be able to produce light and warmth during the winter, we wouldn't be able to produce adequate amount of food, we wouldn'tbe able to produce life saving medicine.

Technology has saved billions of lives this century, from cruel starvation and horrible disease so they could lead rich meaningful lives.

 

Agreed, fusion power is perfect energy.

Biotechnology has some risks inherent in it, but where it pertains to agriculture, its just a different means of plant pathology.

Before hyrbid crops are sold on the market, they are approved by the FDA, the USDA, and the EPA. These are the most widely tested crops ever.

The only risk with nanotechnology I can see they are talking about is it could be used for weapons development, however, that has nothing to do with the industrial applications of nanotechnology which are very benificial... like the enviornment for example... when nanotechnology can be used to clean oil spills, and turn industrial waste into platic.

technology is like our modern times "magic", and that makes us lazy!It's like drugs, it's nice to take a short cut and get somewhere "higher".... Some people around me so full of facts and "solutions", but so ugly inside. Like they have lost their basic survival instinct... I think technology is great, so powerful! But, we keep on havig the wrong priorities! we want high tech stuff for wars, guns, confort etc... But for basic things like gaia... It's time to stop giving away the power to the wrong people, and the times are changing...

 

actually i'm a she and have the god given bodyparts to prove it. i will send this message out on the computer i was GIVEN and if the computer i was GIVEN should fail to work tomorrow then i will be one less individual with a computer. i don't have tv, i use little lighting and could quite easily go without the comforts we take serious advantage (bordering on abuse) of. unfortunately i'm locked into a society that says you have to do this and you have to do that, much of which includes money. in order to live in the woods in a cabin away from morons like you i must have money to buy property. don't lecture me when you don't know my lifestyle. i also have the responsibility of bringing a child into this world which YOU and the blind like you are so hell bent on destroying as fast as you can. i, my friend, walk as lightly as i can on this earth and am very prepared to go lighter at any time i am called to do so. i could lose everything tomorrow and be ok. could you, technofool?
