I'm doing a research paper on the effect of opium on british culture in the 18th and 19th centuries. Does anyone happen to know any authors or poets who were known to smoke opium? Or just famous people?

    Thanks.

If anyone has a link to a site descibing the effect of opium on british literature that'd be marvelous or a paper even :)

Laudanum (a liquid morphine) was quite popular among authors all over the world in the 19th century (and it is said, that a laudanum trip inspired Mary Shelley to write "Frankenstein").
