Today I sit here marveling at the view outside the window. Weather has changed a bit for the better, we have said goodbye this year to temps in the low 100 F degrees daily, and now get as low as 68 F at night. A breeze has begun from the west coast bringing that fresh Pacific air across the peninsula to us, quite refreshing. There are golden slices of butter (true butterflies) fluttering about the Bougainvillea bush in the castle courtyard. They are all over the new flowers, tiny white things surrounded by deep purple bracts of vivid color that attracts the lively insects to the delicious sap oozing from the waxy flowers. ( Bougainvillea (/ˌbuːɡənˈvɪli.ə/ BOO-gən-VIL-ee-ə, US also /ˌboʊ-/ BOH-) is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees belonging to the four o' clock family, Nyctaginaceae. It is native to eastern South America, found from Brazil, west to Peru, and south to southern Argentina. Different authors accept from 4 to 22 species in the genus.[2] The inflorescence consists of large colourful sepal-like bracts which surround three simple waxy flowers, gaining popularity for the plant as an ornamental.)
I thought this bush was dead, but the recent rains brought it back to life in an awesome way.... BTW the image above is from Wikipedia...
Today at dawn the radio blared this wakeup call: I had left the radio on all night to the local college radio station, which went off air... then returned with this at 6 AM!
Sunny, dry and warm today, almost 80F. This is the best time of year here in NC....when we're not hurricaning...
Yeah, I'm photogenic best when trimming trees and shrubs and cleaning up yard crap....but a beautiful day nonetheless....
It will still be a few weeks before we get some color to the leaves....I usually get a lot of gold...
