I planted some seeds 3 days ago, as of now 7 of 8 are growing. The largest one is about 2 inches already. I dont want large plants due to im living in a small place. I have two questions. How can i make a fast crop....and keep them relatively small. I think they're doin fine, nice and green. I will post pictures as they mature.
congrats on the first grow rocketdude, and welcome to the growers forum how small is small? depending on height you might want to look into something like scrog, where you tie the plants down to keep them shorter the type of seeds you have will determine how long until harvest, should say how long they take to flower - then add a month / 6 weeks for veg best of luck
all 7 are almost 2 inches or more....tallest one is around 3". I have no idea what strain they are. I got some seeds from a crackhead near where i live. But the buds they came from we're chronic. How long do i wait before i tie them down. and if i limit them to 12 hours of light per day wont they start flowering sooner?
Start the plants at 12 hours from the begining and they'll start to flower around 3 weeks. No veg period makes for much shorter indoor plants.
hi geck long time no hear. glad to see ya kickin around. hey rocketdude I start mine under 12 12 all the time. just got through a batch of 30%sativa 70%indica hybrids that got to about two foot tall. Grown exclusively under 12/12. they began to sex at 19 to 23 days. There is a batch of fifty seedlings going through the 12/12 cycle from birth now. But when the show sign enough to tell which will be faster budding- they will all go to veg mode for awhile. In fact im considering keeping all the original seedlings in veg all year and cutting from them to do my breeding/smoke production with. Another thing is you should start with the light a good distance away from thge seedlings but week 2 move it a little closer and then a little closer week three, and gradually get it to where the particular size HID you have should be. Im running a 325 watt homeade dual system, the two week old sprouts are just under two foot away. by week three i should be down to about 18 inches. I move it onle a couple inches at a time. every four or five days. then you'll have to start lifting it every few days as the plants grow up to it.
I live out on a tropical island and they get lots of natural light durring the day and at night i use three 60 watt about a foot and a half off the pots
im sure it would be safe to move those 60 watts to about 8"or 10" away. or just leave them outside to natures schedule. If you don't have to hide your plants you would be better off just growing them totally outdoors.
If the 60 watts are incandesent bulbs, lose them all together. Artifical light, even the best, is a joke compared to the sun. Since you have a secure place outside, leave them in the sun unmolested. Give-up on forcing them to flower quickly; that's for indoor plants and a few OZs. Be patient, and you'll have poundage in the fall. Hey TD! nice to be back among the living.
glad to have you back geck God bless ya. Hey lumpy It seems to me he is giving them 12 hours of sunlight and then taking them inside for an extended photoperiod. Giving them artificial light for the remainder of the 18 hour schedule. Rocketdude, if this is in fact what you are doing you still need to use a timer. those lights need to go out at the same time every day or you will more than likely get hermies. and anotherthing Geck is right about the incandecents {yes even grow bulbs} being crap. If you can afford it get a tech-5 {tech light flourecent} it will not cause heat concerns but will give them plenty of lumens. Then do like geck says and plant em outdoor in the spring, stake em to the ground to avoid them being seen. get some poundage.
I was thinking the same....the bulbs are way to far away...may be causing the streching. So I take it there just standard bulbs..not fluoro's?
you planted seeds 3 days ago and already they're up around 2 inches tall? shit, that seems fast to me, am i missing something? peace, sophia
i reckon you wanna get those babys into seperate pots as well, before its to late and roots are all mixed up
Lumpy, 6 hours or so of direct sunlight is sufficent (though more is better, of course) Hippiegirl, That's par for the course.
Wait! I mis-understood. yes, to keep vegging, at least 12 hours light. 6 will grow healthy plants, however.
just regular light bulbs. All of my plants are now a week old and between 1 3/4" and 2 and 2 3/4" i leave them outside during the day and they love it but at night there are bugs and wut not. also the light only shines on them for like 8 hours per day
