Here's some really low standard pics from about a month ago that I took. Purpose of them is to show the hair length and overall condition. Otherwise they are hidden. :) (All I got) Thumbnail versions relieve eye strain and the actual photo size is very fuzzy.

-The white thing on my neck is a boarding recovery... I had a bad neck ache so I put a warmer on it. Haha.

My hair is different lengths at the ends because its all the same length in hair, not ends. The hair is a dark blonde color with dark brown roots also. Which looks kind of strung out to me. I naturally am about this color:

Would it be smart to chop my hair to all the same length? The shortest hairs are about brushing the shoulders. The longest are probably 4 inches past the shoulders. Plus my left side of my head is freakin 2-3 inches shorter overall then the other side. It's kinda funky.

I want tips on doing it myself. I won't go into a salon. Minimal money at the moment and I'm about self-satisfaction. Even if the bangs were a mistake on my part.

Plus I'm wondering how to tell my dad to let me get the hair dyed. I'm serious, he's a trip. He loved my dreads... the whole fam did. I took them out last night and want a natural head of hair but he's kind of against it. What the fudge?

I just want personal oppinions, experiences, and other options you guys might have. Just asking for other people's perceptions. Its fun.

Here's a good way to cut your hair: wash your hair. whiles its still wet, bend way over and comb your hair downwards. then get some sharp scissors, take a deep breath, and cut a in straight line across your hair. you might want to flatten your hair before you cut it to make it easier to cut straight. If its really wet you just flatten it with your hands. lol this is a really bad picture:D

i think you would look good with short hair, it would give it lots of body and movement.

Yeah I'm going to make it brush the shoulders if its going to be cut evenly. I don't know, its just a more defining angle. I love your drawing, thats classic haha. I'll put it in my gallery. :) Humor.

also i never liked hair all even around the bottom. Layering on the bottom is a lot better looking and its more intresting than just straigh across.

I just got hairdye so I'll probably let the lengths stay where they are.

I cut my own hair. All the time, I refuse to get it done by anyone else, and the money for them to cut my hair how I don't want it.
I'm trying to let mine grow out now -
but I always cut it dry, so I can tell what exactly i'm cutting. Just stand in the bathroom in front of the mirror and cut. Have a smaller mirror on hand to do the back.
I've had so many compliments and people ask me where i ge tmy hair done and they can't believe it when i tell them i do it myself.
    good luck

i've been cutting my own hair for a few years and i've never screwed it up. i used to keep it really short and when i felt that it was getting too long, i grabbed clumps and cut where it felt right and it all turned out even. now i'm trying to grow it longer but it's still just as easy. people even ask me where i get my hair done and my mom suggested hairdressing as a career lol.

cutting your own hair is way underrated.

I recently cut my hair the way happykoala showed in her great pic :)

It turned out nice...I was kinda scared at first cause my hair is kinda long so I just cut a bit at a time then fliped my hair back and checked it and if I felt I could cut more I kept going....I did it when my hair was dry, so I could see how it looked.

    Good luck!

Yeah I'm happy with the way the hair dye turned out. It's a deep brown now. The ends are a shit load better so I'm not too bent on cutting it.

I was told many times to take up dreading hair as a minor money maker. Its a possibility cause I know I have good skills with it (if its even hard anyways lol) and alot of people out here in Idaho don't want to learn or even know how to dread. I'd make a 100 dollars a pop if I wanted. Hairdressing would be pretty tight.

Not my calling I think though.

I definatly messed up my hair the one time I tried to cut it. I'm a failure lol. I was cutting the bangs to make them frame my face better instead of just hanging there, and it looked like complete crap. I had to go the next day to get it fixed and the guy fixed it perfectly with just a few snips. I've never had good skills with that kind of thing though. I'd rather just go to Great Clips and get a $10 haircut once every 4 or 5 months and have everyone compliment me. Maybe I'll get up the guts to put red highlights in my hair this year rather than paying $50 like I did a year ago that were so subtle that no one really could tell unless I was in the light (the curses of dark hair..). Oh well..

You guys have any great ways of keeping the hair shiney, frizz free and split ends under control? My hair looks great right now because of the hair dye conditioner but that stuff faids after a couple washes. I have tons of stuff, I'll mention my inventory in the morning but I want to know what you natural folks use. Or convenient. Whatever works.

I've been cutting mine and my friends hair for years, I hate hairdressers because they never do it right. Trimming is easy, just make sure you have a decent pair of scissors and a good comb and try and get it even, make sure you cut the same amount of each section to be sure your hairs not an inch shorter one side and a cm shorter the other. Fringes/bangs are harder and I wouldn't reccommend trying it until you've had some practise.

As for keepin it all shiney, I recently discovered the greatness of putting olive oil on it for an hour or two before washing it off, bit like a natural hot oil treatment. Also someone reccommended mixing up a bit of your fave conditioner with water and essential oils and spraying it on like a leave-in conditioner. This works great and is cheap aswell. Check out my Long Hair Maintenance thread, I got some great tips!
