Remember the war in Ukraine was launched in 2014 with the annexation of Crimea. In July of that year, Putin attacked Donbas (remember Malaysia Airlines). But Obama would not arm the Ukrainians. It was not until Donald Trump became president that they were provided with ANY defensive weaponry, 150 Javelin anti-tank missiles, $400M in arms, 10 missile batteries, 14 javelin mobile Launchers, $40M in training assistance..... though it would obviously never be enough. In 2015, Obama launched the Cooperative Threat Reduction Program that paid Ukraine to destroy any offensive weapons. About Ukraine Obama said, "Ukraine is a core interest for Moscow, in a way that it is not for the United States. Since Ukraine does not belong to NATO, it is vulnerable to Russian military domination, and we have to be very clear about what our core interests are and what we are willing to go to war for. Ukraine does not fit our core interests." The framework for Ukraine was laid and ignored by the Obama administration. And, truthfully, I agree with Obama on this.
