ok, i really don't know where to put this thread, but i'll put it here...
ive been shopping around for a good/real deck of tarots, and not the novelty ones. i have found a few good ones, of course more older and original decks, but, the books/guides weren't with them and i wasn't going to hunt them down. well...if anything. any suggestions on an all round good deck of tarots for a begininner?

Morgan Greer and Rider-Waite are pretty straightforward, too.

I have to disagree... the Thoth deck has a ton of symbolism... I guess they all do... but one of my friends tried to start out with the Thoth deck and he got completely discouraged.

Don't get me wrong, the Thoth deck is absolutely gorgeous.

the robin wood deck is a nice starter deck, the imagery is very clear and i think rather beautiful. the images dont deviate much from the more traditional decks, but i think the artwork is fuller, richer.

rider-waite and morgan greer are pretty standard/traditional decks and i have a set of each. :D

I use ryder-waite... They're easy to read and get used to!
I use the cards for concentration mostly; They do have significant meaning though.
    Blessings to you!

i actually handled a morgan greer deck at my tarot study group - 10 people strong so you can imagine the decks that came out of the woodwork.

but the thing that got me...

there were no astrological or mythological cues.

it was a beautiful, richly colored deck, regardless.

I've got a fair few sets, but I most enjoy my Elemental tarot set. Deals in a way with the elements, Fire Earth Air Water Spirit and what have you. V easy to work with :) Started with them about 18 years ago lol.

i just answered a thread very like this one

the tarot deck should be a gift
    the passing of knowledge...etc

find a wonderful friend who knows you well
    enough for you to trust
and ask if they have a deck spare
    or will get you one...

i have my deck which is one from a great friend
    she used them before
and passed her knowledge with them...

    thank you
    good luck
    from saff

    hi rob,

yes ive had tarot around me since i was breathing this
    earths air
my mother is a great tarot reader
but does not have so much time now
    i never questioned her passion
    so learnt through her silence
    then i met kathy
my long life friend who gave me my
first gift of tarot helped me
unlock many misunderstood points of the tarot
oh ive been looking at them more seriously
    for about 15 16 years...
    always trying to percieve why
    someone wants to know something
    also,

my daughter reads a tarot now
i have given her a deck
    but she is still learning
that not all indicates an ending
    or beginning she is learning
    how they become. the situations
    within the spreads.....

    anyway
    take care rob
    great day to live
    lovenpeace from saff

I have the Goddess Tarot, which I love. I also love the Robin Wood and Morgan Greer, the Arthurian Tarot, the Celtic Tarot and the colourful versions of the Rider-Waite.

I have a Renaissance Tarot deck.

I love it... it not only features the four elements... but alludes to Greek mythology :)

    Totally groovy baby, yeah!!!
