Just a reminder….look how fast the Rs banned assault weapons when one of RRs people got shot. So it can be done. But it’s an uphill climb when the flood gates of money were opened by Citizens United and faux news peddles lies by the dollar. In my life the only person I knew who died by the gun was the murder suicide of the local gun club president and his wife. Think weapon availability might be a factor?
if the Japanese were more worried about civilians with a gun than the American military then they were making an intelligence mistake. It’s awfully tough to sneak up on America with an invasion army across 6,000 miles of ocean ;-p Besides the farmers the neo Nazi groups popping up all over America is also part of that civilian fighting force.
"After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, they could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started. The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River. Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships in other localities, so why did they not invade? After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question. Their answer....they know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them." So, I'm not the only one that has adhered to this idea and even though many rate it as false.
Our "civilian fighting force" isn't sitting quietly in the background, they are ranting about overthrowing their own government, buying record amounts of guns and ammo, trying to take over the capitol building and hang the vice president, and mass shooting innocent first graders with assault weapons. They are mentally disturbed. There is no evidence that the Japanese refrained from invading the U.S. becasue civilians had shotguns and hunting rifles (no assault weapons remember and machine guns were outlawed). Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto never said, "You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass." Additionally the logistics of invading the U.S were beyond Japan's ability. It would be simplicity itself to bring reasonable gun control to the U.S. if we wanted to, but the extreme right wants to maintain the illusion that they can shoot police officers and soldiers and take over the government if they don't like a certain law or laws.
Look at the ships they got. Most of them were obsolete old tubs and 3/4 of them were brought back into service. All the aircraft carriers and newer equipment were out to sea for the seemingly surprise attack. Of course it was a disaster, but there was still a lot left of the 7th fleet. Oh certainly, a ground attack on the west coast would have met some pretty stiff civilian resistance. Oh my.
It came from one of these articles and again for being so opinionated we'll never know for sure.... why didn't japan invade the us at DuckDuckGo I also have to wonder why none of our carriers were in port at Pearl Harbor on a Sunday morning and have my own theories about that as well, but then this thread has been high jacked enough already.
We won’t know what they thought but we do know American civilians were a far smaller threat than the America military and that’s infinitely more true now with military capabilities far outpacing civilian weapon capabilities
The funny think about the mental health crisis (besides why is it only happening in the country with the most guns?) is how does a mental health crisis become an argument against gun control? Shouldn’t the idea that weee a nation of unhinged lunatics make us want to limit access to guns?
We can't address the mental health crisis until people can afford to seek counselling and not get bookmarked in their medical history for it. It's like alcoholics not seeking treatment - once that cat is out of the bag..... Oh, I know a guy in the life insurance biz....and all this stuff is readily available, hipa or not....you get kind of a insurability quotient. But anyway, who's got $200/hour to talk to a shrink? Yeah, sorry, in a cranky mood today..
It’s fair. Our healthcare is primary designed to make a profit and not to help people. Insurance too only works if they collect more in premiums than they pay in claims. Profit and not health is the goal
Well, it seems all those sources debunk it. The Enterprise was transporting 12 Grumman F4F-3 Wildcats to Wake Island. The Lexington was transporting 18 Vought SB2U-3 Vindicators to Midway. The Saratoga was in Puget Sound picking up airplanes to transport to Pearl Harbor. The Yorktown, Ranger, Wasp, Hornet, and Long Island were in the Atlantic.
Does anyone else wish we loved our children more as a nation than we love our guns? We might say that’s not true, but our actions confirm it’s absolutely the case. If it weren’t true we’d do something. One guy tried unsuccessfully to detonate a shoe bomb nearly 25 years ago in a flight originating from another continent and airline travel forever changed instantly. Guns are the leading cause of death for kids and we get crickets
A lot different back then with our military already stretched pretty thin and for entering the war in Europe in the same time frame. And by 1944, they were drafting married men with children. Compared to now, it's not even close with rifles on the ground being of importance.
Like said many times before, I'm willing to try and for going along with anything with an attitude of let's do something, even if it's wrong.
OK, maybe just coincidence and I was going somewhere else with this, but best that I just skip it and so not to get off the beaten path.
OMG…..having everyone in our town armed with military weapons, concealed carry and fueled by testosterone is a hell of lot bigger and more immediate threat than any foreign military or terrorist group ever was. This country has a lot more to fear from the proud boys and right wing extremists in Oklahoma or where ever. And yes, gun violence is mostly guy thing.
Once again a certain political party demonstrates that the so called 2nd amendment rights are a lot more important than the rights of the rest of us to live without fear of being killed by people who shouldn’t be anywhere near a gun. Another pathetic example of the very real impact of our National insanity. Every day we reject an intelligent approach means continuing carnage.
