can someone explain this to me? i can't say any of his songs have ever grabbed my intention, not even in a fun pop way that i was humming later. and i have seen him live twice now, once with dave matthews & friends at bonnaroo and with the dmb on the vote for a change tour, and neither time was i impressed. i didn't get the point of the & friends show because it just seemed like the trey show (which was fine by me as i am a phan), but dave matthews didn't even seem in control. and the dmb show was just so boring, the jams were way too long for how uninteresting they are. I really just don't understand why he has such a huge following, especially when far better bands exist and tour more extensively, like String Cheese or Yonder Mountain. John
Have you seen the Dave Crowd? I have some friends who are Dave Fanatics... Dave is POP music, so his shows sell very well, since he is operating under the guise of "coolness..." So, some of the less radical "kind" crowd still go see Dave, along with the Frat Rats and Jocks who like him too... And the Girlies just love Dave... This isn't news... I saw the DMB play back in 1994 in a bar called Ziggy's with less than 200 people in the joint... It was a SHOW back then... Boyd Tinsley on violin is still a special treat, despite my ambivalence to the music of Dave Matthews.
Yeah... boyd is a really good solo musician. My dad actually got my into Boyd and then we started seeing Dave shows back in the early nineties when I was really young... since Dave lived in Charlottesville and he was still lesser known and more of a local act back then. I perticularly remember a show when I was about four that was really good, so, I think his pre '95 stuff is the best, though, my favorite stuff he does now is with Tim Reynolds.
I never understood what the jam band community has agaisnt DMB. Ive been to 15 shows and will be going to 6 more this summer. To each his own i guess but it seems to me like the jam band nuts are the ones who cant stand DMB because for some reason, people like to label DMB as a jam band which they clearly are not. As for a pop band, anyone with an ear for music can tell you that it is not pop music. Sure theyve had some singles that did decent on the charts but that dosnt make them a pop band. Look at the Grateful Dead (my fav. band) and Touch of Gray. DMB concerts do tend to draw alot a "teeny boppers" who come for the scene I will give you that but they do put on a good show.
string cheese bores me so much...... Id rather watch the grass grow than their shows..... what is the deal with dave matthews though?? he is an actor now, what gives??
thats gotta be the most gay thing ive ever heard are u sure you have heard phish because they could not be more different
