Hey There: Has anyone here done any camping at Harriman State Park? Its a place for great rough/ wilderness camping with good sources for water and available firewood. The Park is accessible to the NY Metro area. Its popular with day users, so campers have to walk in quite a ways for safty and privacy. There are some very nice views. We stayed at a place where we could see the New York skyline, all lit up at night. There are nice babling brooks and small waterfalls. Plenty of swimming in summer. The Park is heavily patrolled by state rangers, they stick to the roads. Would love to hear some other campers out there.
Been there, done that. Very good place for camping indeed (I think it's illegal though, but whatever).
Bear Mountain. isnt that where Jack Kerouac was planning on leaving from originally? I know bob Dylan had a great song, "bear mountain picnic massacre blues' its friggin hillarious.
I live right there....and you can always find a place to camp...but the sad thing is the last time I went there was this family with a portable TV...and that sucked. Driving a couple miles out of the way you may find good spots too
