What would be considered a good fiber supplement? You know some foods are just higher in fiber. So I will include them. Fiber wafers and powders rarely have more than about 17%. I personally think anything with more than 11% is a good source. Also you know some fiber cereals have like over 60%. And people don't get enough in their diet. Like a commercial once said. What are you supposed to do? Eat broccoli all day long?
A good supplement is one that does what you want it to. Usually, that means consistent bowel movements without straining. I first started taking a fiber supplement over 30 years ago due to bleeding hemorrhoids, on the recommendation of my physician. For me, some fiber supplements work, and some did nothing. The specific one recommended by the doctor did not work for me, so I tried others. I've tried lots of different ones over the years, and not every one will work for every individual. For example, Metamucil powder (or store brand equivalent) works for me. Must gummy fiber supplements have active ingredients other than psyllium husk, and they do nothing for me. For someone else, they may work wonders, but not for me. Psyllium husk in any form works for me. For most people, a bowl or two of shredded wheat cereal (no sugar added, no fat, very little sodium) per day should do the trick, if you are already eating fresh fruit and vegetables and find yourself irregular or constipated. You probably do not need a non-food supplement, unless you have an indication such as bleeding hemorrhoids from hygienic paper abrasion, you often go more than 20 hours without a bowel movement, or otherwise on the advice of a physician.
