Universal basic income is an interesting idea. MLK was one of the first to suggest it, even though he really didn't have a political party (he wasn't a Democrat, BTW). But I once heard some guy in the 1980's suggest something interesting.

The US government could just give every citizen a million dollar. Now the federal government could easily afford this. The Rockefellers probably have that much lying in the cushions of their couches. And then live off the interest.

Of course adjusted for inflation, it would have to be more than a million now. But could that idea work?

The answer to your question comes down to the individual's ability to handle their finances. And, as we well know, a lot of people simply suck with money. For this idea to be successful, responsible behavior is assumed. We know this isn't the case with way too many people. You have your out-of-control drug addicts, who would blow it all on a variety of substances possibly in matter of months. For reference, read about Michael Carroll, a British man who lost 9,7 million pounds in lottery winnings in just 8 years as a result of irresponsible spending:

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/real-life-stories/lottery-winner-michael-carroll-who-31698429

Then you also have your wannabe investors, who would invest, and most likely lose the money on stocks without actually knowing a damned thing about what the hell they're doing. And just the average dunces who'd go on a spending spree, unable to control their impulses. That sort of people. I think the end result could be a boat load of tragedies, as well meaning as the idea is, and I wholeheartedly support the idea of some sort of basic income model. But ultimately, paying out in some sort of monthly installments would probably work out better to avoid a shock to the system.

Then there's the question of how to actually finance this. Using the US as an example, the country's population currently stands in the ball park of about 335 million people, or thereabouts. A million bucks lump sum to each would cost at around 335 000 000 000 000 (trillion) dollars to the state. Or, 3,35 × 10^14. Quite a scary looking number. Almost 10 times the current US national debt. Since none of the bankers currently running this shit show are me, I don't think you're gonna find a central bank bold enough to print that much, since people still aren't willing to let go of the childish idea of hyperinflation. At the very least, very strict price controls, with heavy penalties for violating them, would have to be put in to place to prevent price gouging by profiteering, dishonest actors.

So how to make it work? That's quite the conundrum indeed. It's physically impossible to collect that many taxes without imploding the system.

The only time i had this was in cali in early 2000s. & only had it a couple months. I currently aint on ssi. Nor currently employed. So i could use this. In addition i can no longer donate blood plasma for cash. Would help a bit were my state to have nickel deposit for beverage containers. & i can no longer fly sign for cash in nearby towns. I gotta travel 30plus miles for that oneway. Also i cnt get medicaid here. A flexcard would help. I may possibly get medicaid in arkansas. But id hafta change ebt etc for that. Would be nice to also get this in ark in addition to flex but they no have it. There are a few states that still give it out & there used to be more that did. But ya gotta stick around quite a bit. They do monitor recipients oe this. So ya cant travel a whole lot unlike ssi.

Its called state welfare cash, among other names & sources. Alaska gives an average 1500yr. Boston gives 800 on a onetime basis. Im considering a 250mile move in order to start recieving it. This as i aint found a closer state. Way back in the day. It took me abt 2wks to get it in cali. I learned later woulda been faster had i cheated. I kn ow many ppl who cheat on ssi.

Which aint a nice thing to do. The cheating i mean. Something along these liines was mentioned earlier in that this concept would be abused. Which it was over a long period of yrs. Now there are only a few states still doing it. & the process for it much more ptringent.

The problem is that the entire world economy is now based on terrorism, which can trace its roots back to the introduction of formal logic, which was immediately integrated into the fastest growing religions in the world today. The Tea Party rules Wall Street and the Pentagon, because even their religion promotes hypocrisy, and their academics do as well, with almost nobody even knowing how to use a fucking dictionary, and a quarter of their students still insisting the sun revolves around the earth.

The problem is the Tea Party and academia are destroying the entire planet, then censoring half of reality, making AI the future, because there never was any intelligent life around here! Now, the idiots are even making their own AI that prove just how stupid they are. Only the truth can set you free, and its about to be automated, as an online AI ecology, that proves just how stupid the Three Stooges are. They've been attempting to hide the fact, Karma rules the universe, according to modern physics, but its impossible to hide the fact, we occupy a Goldilocks Universe, according to all the measurements.

Merely by creating AI weapons, they're slowly leveling the online playfield, and developing the technology to replace the current madness of the "Winner Takes All" Three Stooges slapstick. My job is helping to accelerate the process, by about a hundred years.
