hi, would anyone go to a gay restaraunt where they would be able to be themselves and kiss, cuddle, etc without the staring eyes and discrimination?

if the food were good, I wouldn't give a flying toot if it were gay or straight or transgendered or whatever...

No, I'd go to a regular restaurant and ignore any negativity.

Call me wacky, but it just feels kinda like a regressive step to continue with segregation. I can see the reasoning behind it, but I can't agree with it. So yeah, if I was going out for a meal, I'd probably just pick somewhere that has nice food.

A gay-themed restaurant, now that'd be another thing.

    exactly how I feel.

I mean, if it's lgtba-friendly or rainbow-friendly, that's great. Awesome and wonderful in fact. But, so long as it allows everyone in, I'm happy :)

And I disagree completely. I believe it is important to support gay-owned establishments. If the product is inferior, however, then of course one shouldn't subject oneself to it in the name of sponsorship. Certainly you'd have no objections about going to an ethnic restaurant or to a sports bar... why not a gay restaurant then?

I believe restaurants should make patrons feel safe and comfortable. I don't, however, want to go into a place where people are "making out" over their food. I don't like seeing it in straight restaurants either.

Duncan, I think that was Self-Control's point... It's important to support gay-owned establishments, I agree with you there, it's important to support more so an establishment of good business. There are no objections anywhere, I don't think, about going to an ethnic restaurant or sports bar. So why not a gay resteraunt? Sure, why not?

If it's the theme of the restaurant, whether the ethnicity is the theme or if it's 'gay-themed', there's nothing wrong with either. More important: good food, good service. Make it whatever theme you want.

I wouldn't, I'm a person and I shouldn't have to go to another restuarant to eat just because I'm different.

    Love is love.

It just seems to me like another way to alienate ourselves from the rest of society.

I would have second thoughts if they didn't let straight people in at all, but if it was gay and straight friendly that would be ok, cause most of my friends are girls

I support gay businesses, whenever I possibly can and whenever I feel, they deserve that support.

I would go to any restaurant that serves good food. Kissing and cuddling in a restaurant? I'd pass on that one. My BF and I do not do it in a restaurant and we would never go to a restaurant where anyone (str8, bi, TS, gay) does it.

Now, disco clubs, night clubs and night bars are all a very different issue...

I'm not sure what is meant by "supporting gay-owned establishments", tbh. I mean, I've never checked what someone's sexuality is when I've eaten at a restaurant because - call me shit - it seems totally irrelevant. I don't even know that gays are in need to additional support - I'm not aware that we're particularly discriminated against in terms of business ownership.

But yeah, I was being flippant about a "gay-themed" restaurant... I mean, what would that even be? Is there such a thing as "gay cuisine", the way there is with ethnic food?

Sitting in an upmarket restaurant full of married couples, all you can hear is cutlery clattering because they have already said all they want to say to each other. This is not the best environment for exchanging less than respectful views about breeders & marriage.

Another upmarket restaurant is much more attractive, where you have to ring the bell at lunchtime to be let in, and where only men are engaged in animated conversation. The absence of women and children gives the restaurant the character of a gentleman’s club, a place where men can talk as sarcastically and cynically as they like – isn’t it always amazing how much more freely men talk in the absence of women and children? That is why I am very much in favour of the existence of sex-segregated spaces in addition to non-segregated ones. Incidentally, the restaurant in this example is not a gay restaurant at all, just a place where a certain class meets at lunchtime.

Finally, the gay restaurant. It is usually located in a gay area and caters to the culinary needs of the gay clientele. You are already in the gay area, looking for a place to eat, rather than going there specifically to eat or meet someone. Often the restaurant is not gay at all, but has a predominantly gay clientele, which gives it its gay character. Are these restaurants excellent? No, they are perhaps best compared to theatre canteens. They solve a problem, but they are not the best possible solution.

Then there are gay hotels. If you don’t know your way around a city and don’t want to be surrounded by families all the time, you may feel drawn to a gay hotel that understands the sexually permissive nature of its clientele. Depending on the country, it may be advantageous to choose a hotel with a particularly good relationship with the police to avoid harassment.

In a Muslim country where homosexuality is forbidden, I asked the Indian receptionist what the rules were for guests and she said encouragingly that I was not subject to any restrictions. In another Muslim country where homosexuality is allowed, the receptionists smiled knowingly when young men came to see me. In both cases, I had not initiated this flow of visitors, but I did not want to ignore the wishes of friendly people, and we went to a restaurant for dinner, and the reception staff smiled again. It is well known that many gay men work in the hospitality industry, which includes flight attendants.

I am also thinking of gay bookshops and gay doctors who are familiar with the needs of homosexually interested men.

It is important to remember that there are many flavours of homosexuality that are very different from each other. For example, I find it much more entertaining to meet other twink lovers with their playful and flirtatious twinks than old gay couples with a heterosexual lifestyle.

In short, I like having an exclusive infrastructure that is ideally tailored to my needs.
