Stop it. You look like an idiot. We all know you're not Rastafarian; you're just a stoner who still lives in your parent's basement. Can we not let black people have one thing to themselves? We stole hip-hop from them (although God knows why, musically, it's the equivalent of stealing a dirty diaper) and we made it completely irrelevant. Early hip-hop (and by early I don't mean 1998) was just as obnoxious, but at least it was honest, and not manufactured shit made by studio gangsters. Let them have their hairstyle. You feel the need to do something weird and different to your hair, try washing it.

Sorry Poop but I missed somewhere in my citizen rights that says you govern our lives. Guess I didn't read the fine print.

Pretty sad to see how you represent your point anyways. Appearance isn't all things. People are unique and attract to different styles. I shouldn't have to see someone get their panties in a bunch about knotted hair. C'mon man, we got worse problems in this world.

And the sad this is people only do this shit to try to improve their image. Yea you all know its true. People thrive on attention from other people, and if your into the hippie stereo-type, or something close to it, you probaly think "wow people, will think I'm so cool with my fucking dreadlocks". I don't have a problem with the new generation of so called "hippies" or anything, I just think this image is primarily fake.

Wow, you seem to know a lot about hip-hop. I guess since I'm Irish I should start listening to U2 or some shit. [IMG]

My friend. You aren't helping anything when you grow anger from this silly physical problem. Does it really have to be a problem? Why are you being offensive to the way people dress or view things?

We all have different perceptions. We all have different reasons for doing dreadlocks or whatever else. Its an exploration thing, its only totally natural. I know you are the same way.

Who cares if the image is fake? That is what you think. Other inhabitants on this earth find mental support or fun out of wearing dreadlocks. It's an artistic thing, even if so many people have them. We can't be that different.

Just chill. I can see where you find them goofy, even if you are surrounded by conservatives. But still, don't be angry filled by it, that doesn't do anything for your well-being, friend.

just putting this out there..dreads didnt originate with rastafarian..it originated with the hindus. the rastifarians "borrowed" it from them.. you often dont see hindu's dreads because they wear turbans though..and letting your hair dread is just plain its natural form if you dont comb it for long enough. really i dont see how it hurts you personally..

you bloody racist. that's like telling black people they can't have a side-parting with short hair because it's only part of conservative english tradition.

I have considered getting dreads, although I don't have them yet. I don't live in my parents' basement, actually I own my house. I also don't smoke.

"We" also "stole" rock and roll from "them", but I notice that either you have no clue about that, or you just don't want to give it back....

    GO YOU :D

I have a friend who is 50ish, has grandchildren, is of white caucasuian origin and has dreads. I don't think he looks like an idiot - certainly not such an idiot as all there shaven headed geeks one sees around. But it's his choice, and why it should bother you is the question. Why do you want to dictate to others how they wear their hair?

On the musical score, pretty well ALL popular music is derived from black music. Jazz, Blues, Rock n' Roll - the lot.

then tell all these "black" people to quit getting weaves to make them look like they have white people hair!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry to sound offensive, but hey, it's basically what you said but reversed)
    .
    .
who said dreads were a black style, there are many people all over the world who have dreads, and beleive me I am a white dready girl, and I am not a pot smoking dumb ass, I hardly ever smoke. Cavemen had dreads cuz they didnt brush their hair, some of the vikings had dreads, uh oh, they had blonde hair, they musta been white. and i have read some about the celts having them too! they called them pixie locks, thought fairies put them in their hair while they were sleeping and it was bad luck to take them out!!!!!!!!!

Why would it bother you so much that a fair skinned person wears dreads? Does that mean a fair skinned person can not listen to Blues or traditional japanese music.

Where were you born Are you from the USA? If you are, it would be like me asking you not to listen to The Doors, Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin. If your not from USA it would be as if i asked you to not listen to a singer from your home country, you get my point?

Adapting parts of life and lifestyles from other cultures is a great way for humans to mingle and accept each other as humans instead as one of "another race" . I am sure if you look in you daily life you will find that you partake in many things not orginally from your home country.

Just let humans be humans and accept them for who they are not their hairstyle or clothes or anything materialistic.

I could go into a long speech about acceptance of religion and culture and such. But, why? Its not fun and it makes enemies.

    Peace all.

yeah they stole hair straightening from us also skin bleaching.Actually dreads was kinda of a surfer style. You go in and out of the water enough and don't comb your hair in between, dreads is what you get.Jamaca is surrounded by water. It's not a black thing,It's a natural thing.

couldnt agree more. i know other people pretty much already said this, but locks dont "belong" to anybody or any one group of people. of course, lots of people hold varying beliefs about them (for example: rastas, sadhus, the maori, etc...) but that just proves that they´re such a universal thing if ANYONE can lock up their hair.

Yeah I wish this universal open-minded view would touch the heart of our thread's creator. Please reply person, we don't hate you. We just want to break that wall that your parents or your ignorance from peers put up. It's only natural to run into these mind blocks but people can help.

Sorry if I'm talking to you like your suicidal but I'm just trying to approach the right way. lol.
