A dear cousin of ours in so cent ak. Passed away abt 2yrs ago. & sadly couldnt come out. @least to the family. Maybe the local community acknowledged. Id like to think so. He was on my dads side of family. & on my moms side a lady cousin came out long ago.
I agree with that one fully. The one I saw in London some years ago was more like a freak show. I have very mixed feelings about all parades. I see the community as part of everyday life, pardes tend to highlight differences, most of which don't exist in everyday life. Sorry if I sound like a killjoy. I certainly do not think that orientation should be secretive, but neither do I think that it needs to be shouted from the rooftops.
Except that Pride started as a protest against being forced to hide one's orientation and identity. It was a F.U. to those who wanted us to hide. The point of parades is to tell those people that we are not going to hide any more.
If it was a reaction to preducise, then I am with you all the way. One of the biggest problems in central London, is that we have a hardcore group of protestors, who come out every time, regardless of what is being protested about. They are a very unsavory bunch, many with serious criminal records. We have even had them in the theatre with loud hailers, protesting about the outdated content of a Shakespearean play.
