Hey! I live in Lexington too, how neat. I've been looking for rainbow here as well. I've only got a far as contacting a gay parenting group and making a complete fool of myself. lol Long story. Anyway, PM me or something.
i know that there are a few communities in ky, also there is a gathering coming up in may. so just keep searching you will find what you are looking for.
Well GUess What..... Guess "WHO" Just showed up in Kentucky. There is going to be a great gathering this May in the Danial Boone National Forest, and I am visiting old friends living in community. THe Fire is burning, and the Rainbow is here....Too Much love, and Light Boomer
thanx boomer... it feels so good to know that out there somewhere in this foresaken state thier lies others....
Ms ff, Cumberland Family, (the Kentucky Folks) are some of the most anal, of which I know, in the land, about posting Rainbow info on the Web. If you're in northern KY, you might try calling the Ohio-Miami Valley, a/k/a OM Valley, lightline. The number's burried in that "Rainbow Basics" thread. Read the whole thing to make sure you find it. If you're farther South or East in your state, the Atlanta Lightline may list events closer to you. If I'm correct, and the full moon in May is close to the end of the month, I wouldn't expect dirrections to the Cumberland Regional to be available before the 15th May at the EARLIEST. But they will certainly be recorded on both the Atlanta and OM Valley Lightlines.
thanx.... i am in central ky but i tend to travle to eastren ky like everyother weekend... why are they so anal? i understand that people dont really want umm stoned high school kids who are just out to party and corupt things but how are those of us who actually want to be involved suppose to be involved if we cant communicate with others near us?
That’s a darned good question, and I wish I had an equally good answer. I’m of the “Get as much information out to as many folks as possible, and damn the consequences” school of thought, myself, and I quickly become lost in the labyrinthine reasoning of my more security minded Family. However, as I understand the matter, the Cumberland and Katuah Family consensus not to post info on the Web has less to do with keeping stoned high school kids away from Gatherings than it does with the Non-Commercial Group Use Permit regulations. A website administrator, or someone who sends email out to a long cc list, could find himself a target for Federal harassment, including fines and imprisonment, for organizing an illegal gathering of 75 or more people. Now, how the person whose name is on the phone bill for a Light Line is less liable than someone who goes to the local public library and sets up a hotmail account as “Ivan Alias 420”, I don’t know, but, then, I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t even play one on TV. Believe it or not, we used to have Gatherings before the invention of the World Wide Web! And the original reason for banging drums at Main Circle was to keep the Saber-Toothed Cats at bay. They hated drums. Really.
i cant even imigane a world wihtout the web it must have been so isolating.... lol... well back in the day how did info get around... word of mouth or what... there ahve always been souls wandering where they fit and there is a whole world out there and the world just seems like they dont want any new friends.... it just seems so so cliquish
Word of mouth, yeah, but also mailing lists, (there used to be something called "Howdy Folks" that was mailed before the Annual) flyers posted at food co-ops, head shops, and similar places, phone trees... I have posted this tale before, and looked for it, but couldn't find it. In '89, when I was on the way to my first Gathering in Nevada, my bro with whom I was traveling and I thought we were going to someplace near Lake Tahoe. We didn't find out till we were in Vegas that the site was really closer to Jackpot. Good thing we had to lay over for a few days for his girlfriend to get her check! I like the Web a lot better than the "knowing somebody who knows somebody" system. Immagining the world without the Internet...All saber toothed cat BS asside, my Mother, raised in South Mississippi, remembers a world without telephones, or at least a world without one in every house.
Just to show y'all I can rummage around in the dead threads as well as the next guy, I found this: http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46065 And the main point for bumping this thread, ff, is that Outdoor Woman is still active on these forums, as of a few days ago.
