For those who checked out Bonnaroo and said "Almost $300?!?!?!" or "Dave Matthews and Maroon 5 at the same place as the DEAD?!?! How fucked up!" Then perhaps smilefest would be a nice alternative. http://smilefest.com/schedule2004.html Sure, you'll miss the dead, and Dave Matthews, and you might even miss Trey, but ya know smilefest's line-up has some of the better groups out there, even though they don't get a whole lot of publicity. What you won't miss, is the 10 hour line to get in, there won't be one at smilefest. You won't miss the insane numbers of quasi-yuppie rich kids that came to see maroon 5. Smilefest is only $85, its also three days. Smilefest has been around for 10 years. Always a fun time! SMILEFEST 2004: Galactic Keller Williams Burning Spear The Derek Trucks Band Leftover Salmon Acoustic Syndicate Umphrey's McGee Barefoot Manner Larry Keel Tony Rice Garaj Mahal These are just a few of the many artists performing this year.
i am going to both this year and there is no comparison, bonnaroo will definately be and experience but i will always come home to good ole smilefest..............
I wanna go to smilefest *so* bad.. mainly cause antibalas will be there... but I dunt think I can afford it... maybe if I had a cheap ride or something... *sigh* .... everyone who's going have fun!
Can't wait to head out to Union Groove for this festival. It will be my first year, but i have heard many good things about it. Is it true that it is usually heavily policed and there are alot of busts?
there are a lot of undercovers, just be smart. we saw cops go into a closed tent to bust someone smoking a bowl last year so i wold watch my back......but the people are great as well as the music. and heads up, anyone in a perfectly ironed tyedye wearing a hip-sack is probly a cop. none of the cops last year had wrist bands on....
This year will be #6 for me and from my vantage point the cops weren't as bad as some made it out to be. Does anybody remember Jo-me-okee in 2000. I was there for only the last day and in about 45 min. I had spotted 30 of Winston-Salem's finest and around 10 undercovers. So the cop situation at Smilefest will be tame in comparsion. I'm planning on going again because the atmosphere is nice and laid back as compared to others. For what the ticket price is it's a bargain and did I forget the lineup is probably the best I've seen yet.
I haven't been in a few years, but when i used to go Cops were the furthest thing from my mind, I didn't see them at all. But I did see lots of interesting shapes and colors.
me too but its important, if I win I get money to get a HOUSE! If not well then oh well, I'll live in little places for awhile. Maybe it will resolve be4 then, I'm hoping it will because it would be cool to see u!
Do they let old farts like me come? ;-) Look for me in my 78 VW camper. Got two tickets and my harmonica. Looking for a kynd companion. Can't wait. Peace Shaggy46
I really really wanted to go, but I don't think I can make it. Unless I take the baby, and that scares me. We could carpool or something, Robyn...hehehe
nah taking the baby to smilefest wold be cool. i am bringin both of mine, ones 5 and ones only a year old. they are gonna have lotsa kids stuff this year and last year we didnt have to put up with any obnoxious drunks
We can be tentmates! I've been seriously considering it. I love North Carolina and any excuse to get me there.. I wish I had a job. I only have $32. But I can work on it. Maybe I'll sell some sandals. Good luck, Eryn. Knock em dead.
i need to get a job too HAHA. you really should come if you can get the cash in order. it will be a blast!!
If this is on private property, how can there be so many under cover cops. No cops were allowd at Bonnaroo. I mean there was security to keep the peace but there were no cops busting people for drugs.
