Then, after a period in which he made unclear noises, he began speaking fluent English, the parents and professional officials who treated him said. They said he regularly uses terms such as “My dear” and “Oh my goodness,” which are never used in his village.

His family, none of whom are English speakers, says he has never been abroad and hasn’t watched a lot of English-language TV. An English-speaking family friend said the boy knew English the first time he ever met him.

O’Neal has a level of Arabic far below other children of similar age in his town, and speaks it in an accent typical for people from English-speaking countries. His family fears that he will face many difficulties in communication in his town.

He has been sent to a Druze kindergarten with an English-speaking teacher, but has had difficulty communicating with the other children.

The TV show invited medical experts to meet and view footage of the boy, and they couldn’t find a sufficient explanation.

After that, she cried every time a plane flew over, a behaviour she showed for a number of years. She said that she was afraid that the planes would shoot her. As a young adult, she continued to identify herself as a male, and she preferred that people address her using a male honorific instead of a female one. Dr. Stevenson last saw her family when she was twenty-seven years old. At that point, she was living with her steady girlfriend in another town. Her family reported that she still talked about wanting to join the army and continued to dress as a male.

The Bloxham Tapes Revisited: Why Cryptomnesia is Not The Complete Explanation - Ian Lawton (Is.22) - The International Journal of Regression Therapy

When an acquaintance first suggested to BBC producer Jeffrey Iverson that he should visit the renowned hypnotherapist Arnall Bloxham in their shared home town of Cardiff, he had little expectation of it coming to much. Bloxham was by then nearly eighty years of age, but for the past twenty years he had been regressing subjects back into previous lives, and had tapes from sessions with more than four hundred subjects to prove it.

Despite his initial skepticism, Iverson made a number of visits and spent many hours listening to the tapes, becoming increasingly intrigued. Like most people he had accepted the misconception that people always claim to remember only famous and exciting lives, yet here he encountered regression after regression that was ordinary, humble, and often somewhat boring. Not only that but many subjects used entirely different voices and words from their normal conscious personality. But he also knew that the only way to satisfy his mounting curiosity would be to concentrate on cases containing detailed and obscure historical facts that might be verifiable. This he did, even bringing in the famous journalist and broadcaster Magnus Magnusson to assist in the investigation. The results were aired in 1976 in a BBC documentary entitled “The Bloxham Tapes,” accompanied by Iverson’s book More Lives Than One. Between them they caused quite a stir.

Hypnosis is considered extremely unreliable even when trying to recall repressed memories of this life. It was attempted by the legal system and resulted in wrong convictions and has therefore for a long time now been considered useless in that regard. Even non-hypnotic (which is a bit of semantic over-differentiation, there is no such clear delineation, it is all just psychological manipulation at the end of the day) attempts to recall things is not extremely reliable, the memory itself is not. It relies on the idea that memory functions as some sort of camera-like recording device and stores everything precisely somewhere to just be retrieved. But what our present understanding of how it works seems to indicate is that it is much more something like spotted subjective impressions we try to connect by constructing narratives, and those constructions are not always representing objective historical realities.

At the same time hypnosis is by definition heightened suggestibility and as such also prone to creating whatever suggested narratives, including false memories.

Therapeutic use is different, there is no need to have a historically objective memory there because we are ultimately dealing with emotional content anyhow, so whatever psychodrama our mind creates or we create for our minds on which to project those emotions it is all a good starting point.

It is not a forensic instrument though.

So to sum it up:
1 - hypnosis IS NOT a reliable way of retrieving memory
2 - hypnosis IS a reliable way to implant and create false memory

Therefore it can not be used as an argument on topics related to past lives.

In some cases, the remembrances are extremely clear: the names, professions and quirks of a different set of relatives; the particularities of the streets they used to live on; and sometimes even recollections of obscure historical events — details the child couldn’t possibly have known about.
