I want to encourage those from Pacific Palisades who are evacuating to feel invited and empowered to swing by good old Ventura County or Santa Barbara; there isn't any reason to hang out while it all burns down.

The wind isn't expected to stop. Until it does there is little hope for the fire to stop. Those who have insurance, you'll be fine.

If not, be ready. You'll be ok, but it will be paycheck to paycheck for a while so plenty of ramen noodle soup. Or not... There are plenty of affordable yummy things like cashews or sunflower seeds between meals of Campbell's Soup.

There is no reason you can't do that! Be strong!

Talk to each other. It isn't easy. Use shelters. Use food pantries at community colleges and take fliers to see where you can go and what resources can help you.

Sometimes it feels like a misnomer or untruthful to describe yourself as 'facing homelessness' but you do what you have to.

And you can bet Newsom and Biden Harris will be very quick with the pen to approve disaster relief, especially for those facing domestic insecurity.

You shouldn't feel like you're a burden! Stay positive very deliberately! It's totally necessary or you will devolve into a poor person! Lol. You'll all turn into pigs! I'm kidding. =-]

    Come to Camarillo. Now.

For a new home, think big! Take a loan if you can. Use the car as collateral. Ask me to borrow for you but not from me; I'll cosign before I'll loan to you but I need to see how much you make. :)

You don't need to feel uneasy about driving north, staying in TO or Camarillo or Oxnard or Ventura or Santa Barbara.

There are a limited number of hotel rooms though! You'll thank yourself later.

We have to be emotionally ready to accept this change. I'm not from there, but I've been there plenty. I've had coffee lots of those places; many of them in Brentwood or even the Starbucks in Palisades but still really close to PCH.

And the Beverly Hills-y coffee places, the Wilshire one, and the really cool ones that aren't even in LA; inland on Lindero Canyon Road to where Kanan and Lindero intersect a few miles east of 101.

My point is I've been nosing around!

    Now it's your turn. :)

There is another thing... Dial 2-1-1 and see what your options are. It is like a switchboard that connects people to community services.

There is nothing wrong with calling 211 and it may be the least involved way to achieve basic needs.

When we look at Maslow's Hierarchy from our psychology lesson, things that are important like actualization that we are adults, effective, good at what we do, capable, confident, responsible, etc. are all at the top level of the pyramid.

What am I talking about? Why is this important now with our home in a smoldering heap?

I'm Jack. I've been living in Palisades for decades. My family has owned wealth for a century, but our company is no longer a going concern. I live off the interest of our invested savings, and my life is rather sterile, and fixed-income living has characterized my life for a while.

I don't realize that all of the 'rich guy' stuff that has always been normal for me isn't there right now. Now, I'm a little like Joe who drives through Beverly Hills but has spent 80% of his net income to drive the bigger BMW model or Rivian SUV to UCLA, but doesn't have enough money when we all go to lunch on Rodeo to pay his bill.

    What do I mean FFS?!

Your priority right now is less to be recognized as effective or accomplished. Those are at the top of the list! But right now it isn't practical to be 'effective' or 'recognized' because you need food and shelter.

Once everything is taken care of again, it will be like riding a bike and it will all come back to you.

Human Services may be able to help.

I asked my browser's AI (CoPilot) and here is what it said:

I'm sorry that you lost your home. You're welcome to say more about what happened if you'd like to.

I was giving an example. Sorry!

No, I didn't lose my home but hundreds probably have. The extent of the disaster hasn't been reported where I've seen it. I read Billy Crystal, an actor who has lived there in Palisades, which is just north of Santa Monica; it's the last part of real estate inland from the PCH prior to 10 freeway east and 405, 110... His home was one of those lost!

I had thought about building, which I would have to sell to do, in Malibu area, or south of Malibu in the hills but I knew this was one of the issues that properties there sometimes experience.

Fire has an impact especially when wind doesn't stop for awhile. California has this issue, and one problem with the Santa Monica mountains is wildfire.

This is actually far too much sodium! It's enough salt for an entire week in each meal. I will get to the business of making a low-sodium foods for disaster victims topic. =-]

I have seen scathing commentary about the mayor and the governor as it pertains to water shortage in the fire.

I think rationing from Ventura County to Orange County for 7 days would be totally appropriate and would provide supply.

There is no better time for the governor to impose rationing, and it wouldn't need to be from places so far from Los Angeles that it's unpopular.

Let us sacrifice a little to help!

That even made the news where I live. The mayor got back from some other country and was immediately cornered in the elevator by a reporter going, "Do you regret the budget cuts to the fire department now?"

I was like, dang...I'd hate to be in her shoes right now. Whether or not she is too blame, people are going to need a scapegoat, a villain to pin this on. Seems like she is in the cross hairs.

In a related note, we're sending some of our firefighters out your way. Just like y'all did when we were on fire.

Life in the American West: we're all in this drought-scorched tinder box together :(

    Stay safe out there.

If it takes longer than 7 days, just rotate rationing to a different county. It makes better sense for those who live in surrounding area, but if more is needed there isn't a reason to not ask for rationing from counties further from the fire.

Unlike T who has insulted the Ca Governor and others in the state during a horrible disaster, Mexico is sending an assistance team. Maybe female Presidents just have more humanity than male Rs.

Water rationing sounds like it would be a good idea.

I wonder if a grassroots semi-radical water conservation effort could do some good.

So for example, most men would be able to easily urinate in any wide-mouthed bottle, like an empty laundry detergent bottle with the spout cut out, instead of flushing the toilet each time they urinate.

Even better would be to go outside and piss on some vegetation.

It may sound strange, but if a million people did it, it would save a vast amount of water.

I just read an article about why the hydrants ran dry.

I think water conservation is generally encouraged, especially on the west side of LA. Presently firefighters seem to have adequate water pressure and supply. The root cause for the dry hydrants seems not to be a general shortage of water supply in the LA area, but rather issues with pumping, elevation, a catch-22 scenario of the need to shut down power for safety and needing it to pump water, and the fact that a reservoir near Pacific Palisades had been empty and closed for repairs.

If water conservation will help, I hope people will try to conserve water, and that government will ration water as necessary, but it seems like other factors were and are the main issues.
