Just thought I'd suggest a couple really cool books, which both can be read online. The first is "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse, it's fantastic, about the life of a young Indian Brahmin, and his path towards enlightenment. Very beautiful. It can be found here: http://4umi.com/hesse/ The other is by Gibran Kahlil Gibran (often just called Kahlil Gibran). It's called "The Prophet" and is a sort of sermon on the mount sort of book. The Prophet speaks on a multitude of issues as he is preparing to leave a city. I was deeply moved by it so suggest it to you. This is his most popular work, he has others which are also very good. You can read them at either of the following sites (I think the second is more complete). http://4umi.com/gibran/ http://leb.net/gibran/ There's some other writers you can read at this site, though I haven't checked them out http://4umi.com/word Anyone got any other books like this they liked?
I thought that you might be interested to know that "Siddartha" was the book that inspired the band YES to write their masterpiece 19 minute epic "Close To The Edge". You can read about it in "The Extraordinary World Of YES" by Alan Farley (website www.farley.ozefamily.com) - its available online in both paperback and Adobe e-Book formats. If you like adventurous rock music with a spiritual theme, YES is really a band worth checking out.
No no, any book works, as long as it pertains to the subject at hand. Be Here Now, who's it by, whats it about?
All the books mentioned so far in this thread are very good - 'Be Here Now' is by Ram Dass (formerly Richard Alpert), Tim Leary's co-worker in the 60's. A couple of suggestions: 'Island' by Aldous Huxley 'Bkack Elk Speaks' by John G. Niehart.
