i was wondering this because from one source i read it says that if it turns blue when damaged, then it is psychadelic with only one exception. this is what it said about the exception: " This natural bluing-reaction noted in the psilocybin species is also noted in one other non-psychedelic genus. To even the least observant person the difference in physical appearance is extremely obvious. The non-psilocybin mushrooms that turn blue are: large, bulbous and usually very smooth. This fat cap cannot be confused with the psilocybin cap. The cap and stem will be yellow or yellow-brownish evenly over the entire surface. With age, the specimens of this genus may be noted to turn blue on parts of the stem. The underside of the cap has pores instead of gills. These pores, appearing as an organic sponge, will be of the same color-range. The stem is proportioned like the cap and is quite solid and fleshy. These species do not occur on dung but may be located in pastures and lawns after rains." i read another source that said that the blueing reaction occurs in many non-psychadelic and/or deadly mushrooms. is this true? thanks in advance for your help
There are some poison kinds that turn blue too. A psilly shroom has 1- a brown cap, 2- a hollow stem, and 3- turns blue. 2 out of three, and you die horribly
Please respect your life and never ingest any mushrooms that you cannot positively identify!!!! The minimum you need to identify mushrooms is to have a copy of the book: 'Psylocybin mushrooms of the world' by Paul Staments I have a Pdf version of the book if anyone needs it please pm me... There are many poisonous mushrooms that look deceptively like psilocybe cubensis, ingestion of them may cause a slow and painful death over a period of two weeks or less. You have been warned.
Cubensis is easily identifiable by the purple spore print. Many also have a distictive purple ring around the stem (sometimes it falls off) But don't think you're going to find them anywhere in North America but the south.
Not always, maybe Psilocybe mushrooms dont have brown caps. P. AZure has more of a brick colored cap as does Golden teacher. 2. I have never seen a psilocybe mushroom with a hollow stem, a hollow stem just means it grow in unfavorable conditions. and 3 yes psilocybe mushrooms turn blue when bruised but not all of them do. Many psilocybe mushrooms dont contain the chemical the blues when bruised. Their are two chemicals in mushrooms that get you flying, only one bruises blue and its not found in all the species. And there are many mushrooms that stain blue when bruised. I wouldnt go skipping through the woods looking for them unless you knew how to Idenify them. If you find them in a cow field.... that narrows it down but only if you are in the south. Very few species grow in the northern part of the US, usually just liberty caps and Pan. Sub . Though the pacific NW is shroom heaven.
ummmm i've always read that psilocybes have hollow stems. if i had read both i would have asked about that. but yeah every single source i've read said that they have hollow stems.
every single stem i've ingested has been hollow. lol if i bit into a mushroom and the stem was full, i would be very weirded out. once i got a stem that weighed 2.8 it was almost the whole of an eighth i bought once. it was like 5 inches long lol and like and inch wide all the way through. i just applied a little pressure on teh outsides and it broke into a million peices, completely and utterly hollow with some brown powder on the inside, it was wierd and it kind of pissed me off that almost all my eighth was a damn stem lol but it was a good trip so i'm not complaining.
ive grown them for 5 years now, hollow stems mean the person that grew them sucked at growing and didnt give them proper treatment. If grow under optimal condition they stems are solid and dense. Where are these sources about hollow stems? grainpsilo
Wild P. cubensis var.florida invaribly have hollow stems. I don't think Mother Nature sucks at growing.
I got that from Terrence McKenna's witings. He said that if you're hunting mushrooms, you could use a 3 prong test to decide if the mushroom you found would be both active and safe. The 3 pronmgs were 1- brownish cap, 2- hollow stem, and3 turns blue when bruised. There are psychoactive species that don't meet all 3, but terrence was more concerned with kepping people from poisoning themselves. If you find a shroom that meets all 3 tests, you can be sure you have a active , safe to eat mushroom.
