Ok, 60s and 80s too, 90s not bad, 2000nds meh, current stuff is just lobotomy. Ofc there are some exceptions. Khruangbin are great imho, also Lebanon Hanover too... I'm a millenial guy, born 1983, but I recently realised that everything I really care about musically is 60s and 70s. Perhaps it's the blues and folk underneath it, or the vibe or idk what. Idk why I am such a hippie - some hobo wind in my head. Perhaps from my mother, she had a motorbike. 70s had the best curve mix of technology, talent, finance, and educated public I guess. That's my guessing. That's why 70s get sampled so much. And I’m gonna say, and I suppose I'll get some flack for this, but sampling.....sucks! I know how it's done, I have a sampler, and can produce in daws - it's all just toys, it's a toy music. The real stuff is in the fingers and playing live. My friends tell me I sound like a boring boomer, but I don't care, the boomers had the best stuff imho.
Metal and rap were still in their embryonic stages and some of the best punk related subgenres didn't even exist yet. An absolutely dreadful time when it came to music.
The 50s music was the foundation of the great 60--70s advances in R and R. There are good songs and bad songs in EVERY ERA. New trends come and find their place in the pantheon of music. Old trends have their influences on music in many cases. Blues and Jazz, for example.
