50's is considered a cold front? Must be nice. Back when I lived in Ohio that was considered mild during the winter months. Anyway, I can still barefoot when it's in the 50's, even walked barefoot in snow, but I would quickly run for the indoors after a minute ot two. I don't have much tolerance for cold, that's why I live in Southern Arizona. Low's in the 30's some nights here, that will do it for me.

Living in Canada you have many chances to go barefoot in cold weather. Ive been outside in January barefoot. It was probably about -20 degrees Celcius, not sure what that is in US units, but it equals f*ing cold. Needless to say I wasnt long heading to the hot tub :sunglasse!!!

    Peace,
    Jon

Barefootin in the cool december weather is always fun. Last friday I hiked around 3 miles, the temp was 37f. At first my toes were cold but they warmed up. The muddy trails felt awesome and the old leaves and pine needles seemed warmer... as long as I kept moving I was warm enough to stay out all afternoon. While washing my toes in the lake water I got a little numb but nothing to be woried about. The few people I saw seemed amazed I'd be barefoot but they didn't say anything about it.

I was up in Sebastian, Florida, skydiving today. I was the ONLY person out of a few dozen who was jumping barefoot. (When it's warmer, some do join the fun.)

We jump from 13,500 feet, usually. For every thousand feet of altitude, you lose 2 degrees C. or 1.8 degrees F. So if it was about 70 F. on the ground, we were 48.6 F. lower at exit altitude; it was 21.4 degrees F. up there! When the wind is blasting past your feet at 120-170 mph in freefall, it can be pretty frickin' cold, believe me! :p

Incredibly, though, you hardly notice it because you're so occupied doing the skydive. Like today, there were 17 others working on this formation with me so I wasn't thinking about my feet. By the time I opened my canopy, it was a lot warmer, since I was down to about 4,000 feet.

If you ever go somewhere to do a tandem skydive, I recommend that you simply tell them you will be doing it barefoot. I have seen several people (they were women) who came out to do tandems and they did them barefoot. There's really no risk to your feet, because the landings are softer than most people think they are. :)

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

i'm a finn so i'm a slave to the stupid tradition of walking outside in winter (-20C) wet and half naked (only a towel around my waist) and a beer. it's great, i never did swim in a frozen lake though, it'll be a thing to do next winter i go back home.

No, sandal'd does not count as barefoot. Silly. You should know better than to ask that.

I despise shoes, they're the devil. I was just outside barefoot for a couple of minutes. It's below freezing cause it's snowing hardcore. It's probably in the upper 20s F and there's about 3 inches of snow already on the ground. my feet got kinda cold, but it was alright by me.

On my way to work, I used to walk through an abondoned quarry. Often used to get nude on the way to work and cover back up before getting to a public space. I did this once when it had snowed. Did not even feel the cold on my body nor my feet but once I was at work my feet strated really hurting lol!

    The topic is valid.

50 degree F air temp can be a bit chilly, depending on surface temp, wind, and humidity.

I’d prefer an additional few degrees, and bright sun.

I did. But Amontillado is correct, that’s a long time for a comment to sit.

One wonders why it was resurrected.

and in a MOD NOTE, I’ll be closing the thread. It’s still readable.
