If you dont every even hear what a bad trip is, and know nothing about it, can it still happen??? Many people get bad trips due to paranoia, thinking they may get one or scared that they may get one, ussually makes them get one.
Of course it can still happen. Bad trips can be brought on by lots of things, not just paranoia of the bad trip itself. Negative feelings, worries, unsettling environment etc are all examples... Bad trips aren't something you should be scared of necassarily. If you respect the drug and take the right precautions beforehand, you shouldn't really have any problems. And even if you do, sometimes the 'bad' trips are the most valuable in retrospect.
Bad trips can happen a lot of ways. One particular way that I noticed is due to a bad setting. Tripping in physical chaos is bad, pretty soon the physical transcends to the mental and you may find yourself in a bad place mentally. Also, you pretty much never understand the feeling of a bad trip til you have one. To me, it's almost like having an intense feeling of horrible impending doom, like when you were a kid and broke a huge tv, or a glass or anything of your parents and were so scared that you thought the whole world was over. And even though there is no logical reason to feel this bizarre, extreme form of fear, the drugs can cloud your ability to think logically think about it, and it can really suck.
Of course it can. When "tripping" people (slipping them LSD without their knowlege) was popular, bad trips were the norm, in this situation (one reason Tim Leary was against the practice) Many of these people didn't even know what LSD WAS, much less a bad trip. Imagine tripping and having NO IDEA what was going on? Pretty good guarentee of a bad trip. In the 60s both Pigpen and Janis Joplin had been known to make themselved vomit, rather than endure a non-consensual trip, when they suspected they had been dosed.
Yea, dosing people on anything without their knowledge is just fucked up. Some kid did it to this girl I know the other night who is trying to stay clean. Not on LSD, but he slipped an ecstasy in her drink. She is trying to stay clean from all drugs, so generally, this upset her.
I had a "bad trip" in Amsterdam on mushrooms in November. It was my first one, usually I always have an excellent time with potent fungi. This time, however, my friend was having a bad trip, and I got dragged along. Like the poster above said, it was one of the most valuable experiences I have had to date. Psychedelics aren't necessarily about having fun, although this does occasionally happen . They are about having lucid and visionary access to your dream world. Sometimes this includes nightmares.
To help avoid bad trips: Remember IT'S THE DRUG CAUSING IT. Change your enviroment if you start to feel the slightest bit uncomfortable (this can be as simple as looking another direction). Don't do hallucinogens if you've got a problem you fixate on. Or if you're angry or resentful. Come to Florida for the 4th of July.
I had a bad trip, total psyholigical mindmender kind of trip. But.. I survived, even some really bad trips, teach you something..
