I've gone on record that pardons are good things. avoid recrimination. allow better bi-partianship. Move-on to real busines of State.

Its been a quiet thread for a sitting President.

    For a President granting a plethora of pardons. Many: Good;
Some:Questionabe. And Yes he pardoned his Son, Yes. It is OK with me.

For the Gamblers her I am asking for Odds..

    Yes.. A betting line.............

What are the chances that Our Presidents Brother, James Biden will receive a blanket pardon ?

The late George Adamson of "Born Free" fame was once quoted as saying:

"......Man is the most destructive creature on the Earth............"

Also, recall now "Cornelius", reading from the "Sacred Scrolls" (Planet Of The Apes").......

"......beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's spawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, or lust, or greed........yea, he will murder his brother to pocess his brother's land......"

    'nuff said....................:(

I still maintain that President Biden has been a great president. In reviewing the life of Jimmy Carter, I have also elevated his presidency, but moreso, his life, as so good. He should go down as honored and well-treated by historians. I hope the same will be said for the man who served between the two unusually narcissistic terms of Trump. History will tell an incredible story of these years which we are living through now.

    Papa:

    AGREED 100%!

I personally feel as though I am saying "goodbye" to a much-loved favorite uncle, with Biden now leaving the White House; like yourself, I truly believe he was one of our greatest Presidents.

Just look at how much good he accomplished, in his four years as our leader.

I had always known that Jimmy Carter was a good man of good upstanding character, but, not until after his death, did I realize what a truly great man he truly was, indeed, a humanitarian for the ages.........

I hope I stick around long enough to see this time period treated as "history." As a child growing up in the Reagan years, my family's opinion of him was in stark contrast to from the decent, hard working, economy-saving, beloved cowboy as he was portrayed at the time.

After his death, when he became subject of historical review, his true legacy--one of racism, inequality, and the typical tax-cuts-for-the-rich-and-fuck-the-poor approach to the economy--was the Reagan my family complained about when I was a child growing up. Today, he is almost vilified.

I can't imagine history will be kind to Trump, and I hope I am around to see future generations' interpretation of him. Then I can be the old lady who huffs and says, "Yeah? We'll, I lived through it!"

Interesting your assessment of Reagan... I recently saw or read on a social media site/news that Reagan sent people to negotiate with the Iranians over the hostage deal - while at the same time our State Department and Carter were conducting official negotiations. The person who was interviewed about this was part of the Reagan staff - and he said that Reagan communicated to the Iranians to not release the hostages, and that Reagan as president would offer a better deal to the Iranians once he was elected.
As it turns out, the hostages were released on Inauguration Day after Reagan was sworn in.
As it turns out, that is called Treason... amongst other things.

My late mother had a saying she often used:

"......a lot of the time, you don't realize what a good thing you have until you don't have it anymore......"

IMHO, this indeed also refers to both our current (outgoing) President, Mr. Joseph Biden, as well as the (RIP) late Jimmy Carter.

I'm also willing to wager that MORE than a few are going to miss Joe Biden MORE than they ever realized, a few weeks hence..............how much we all take for granted..........

Trump screws things up, Biden comes in and spends 4 years fixing it, Trump blames Biden for the situation, he gets re-elected and now he'll screw things up even worse. The inmates are running the asylum!

I well recall, the day after Biden was inuagurated, photos showing him his desk, surrounded by MOUNTAINS of documents and paperwork, trying to at least sift through the morass left after Trump departed (these pictures alone spoke volumes)

Recall, also, the thousands that died during the height of COVID; recall, at the onset, a certain Cheif Executive referring to COVID as "fake news".

I could be wrong, but, I believe that had Biden then been in office, that the COVID death toll would not have been as steep as it was.

Recall, also, that, when Biden entered office, he wasted no time in combating COVID with whatevber was in his power.

And, today, look at how much progress (COVID-wise) we've made since Biden took office, four years ago.

I truly shudder when I think of what the next four years will be like..................

I would have pardoned Hunter without a doubt. I would not have promised "not to" beforehand.

I'm glad the Ronald Reagan myth is dying . It has to do with the Iran / Contra scandal of playing both side on the War on Drugs, Terrorism and the fact that his campaign manager had secrete meeting with Iranians to hold the Tehran Embassy Hostages until the 1980 Election, to beat then President Jimmy Carter ( RIP).

In a few more years, he will be viewed as second, in Criminality to Donald Trump.

The story of JAKE TAPPER's book about Biden's physical and mental decline and the announcement of President Biden's cancer diagnosis almost seems too timed - Whether Biden had cancer and his doctors knew it, kept it secret, etc. is up for debate now - most of that pushed by the Right, as some sort of show that we were not in a good place when Biden was in leadership as president. The book on Biden's decline is being criticized - Most notably is the push for review of old news... Whether he was failing in his mental acuity and risking our nation's safety, whether access to him by his cabinet was causing issues of governing, whether his wife was power hungry to hang on, whether he failed to "pass the torch"... seems to me the fact remains that his leadership, and the integrity of this nation, was in good shape - compared to now. And some of you reading this will disagree - that the current administration, also led by an elderly man, is doing so much more for the safety and the success of this nation. One thing seems quite clear - we are not getting the whole story on both presidents. There is too much "click-bate" in reporting the actual truth. Our media is controlled by corporate greed and our newsfeeds are controlled by algorithms. Considering that, it seems the focus on Biden's decline was overplayed while the current president's cognitive capabilities is downplayed. Or is it that he just plays by a simpler playbook of rambling similar answers to everything he says when asked by non-aggressive reporters who fear their careers will be threatened?
How a president, who is continuously cared for by medical professionals, can go so long without diagnosis of a cancer diagnosis seems preposterous. It does seem interesting that his diagnosis became public at the same time as the release of the book. However, cancer does not follow the rules. Prostate cancer is curable when detected early enough - and men should be tested and checked for this as a standard of their health care. But it doesn't always work that way.
Whether the truth of Biden's abilities was shielded from public view, whether his cancer was kept quiet until it seemed like a good time to go public for the balance of the day's news - seems irrelevant overall.
My view on Biden changed over the years. When he ran for president earlier in his career, his missteps and "uncle Joe" gaffs seemed to hurt him, and I was not a big fan back then... but who he really is as a person seemed to be more evident when he was Vice-President, and when it was his time to serve as President, it was what our country needed - following the disastrous COVID pandemic, and the results of 45's first round as president. I was unsure whether he should seek a 2nd term at his age but I supported him. In retrospect, I wish he'd decided to step down for a run earlier and given the American people a chance to go through the standard practice of reviewing candidates. That was the most critical issue of the 2024 election. I did think Harris would be a good president - no doubt about it - but I heard enough talk that her "gift" to run to replace Biden on the ticket to know it hurt the Democrat's chances - that and our country's profound inability to accept a Black female as our chief executive. Would things have turned out differently? Who knows.
I think the point now is that we need to move forward - stop talking about a former president, and past elections - and get busy about our future before our future looks very different than the one we always took for granted would be there for our children and grandchildren.
    Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis
    New York Times morning report
    • Before Joe Biden announced that he had prostate cancer, Democrats had been criticizing his 2024 campaign. They are now expressing well-wishes and concern.
    • Trump, without offering evidence, appeared to suggest that Biden’s cancer was not newly discovered and had been covered up.
    • For the second day in a row, The Morning’s most-clicked link was about what the recording of Biden’s special counsel interview revealed about his health.

You would indeed think a cancer diagnosis would've been much earlier.

But if that was the case, I doubt he'd suddenly be deciding on how to treat it. Indeed it would have been treated right away

And I read they stop doing PSA tests for ppl over 70 now. So it's quite possible he didn't know about it before, or that it had metastasized. It's one of those internal cancers that doesn't show obvious symptoms.

Most men in their 80s have enlarged prostates that can cause issues, but the seriousness can be overlooked or ignored until it's too late.

Men over 70 are not always screened for prostrate cancer as it is slow moving.
When my father was in his eighties the doctor told him not to worry about prostate cancer as he'd be dead before it did any damage. One of the benefits of ageing.

in 2023 he had a cancerous skin lesion removed.
In 2021 he had a benign polyp removed from his colon.
    Etc.

Nothing new about not reporting everything about presidents.

The past few years, Joe Biden has looked more and more sickly; he's looked drawn and weary, eyes virtually squinting, and climbing down steps from aircraft very slow and one step at a time.

Aging is NOT fun, and most especially when you are facing serious health issues.

Mr. Biden has done so much for us.....and our country.

Let's all keep him in our thoughts and prayers, and hope that he will know just how many of us are praying for him.

He always acted as a gentleman, and with dignity.

Whatever crises he faces, I know he'll face them with dignity and courage.

    God be with you, Joe...........
