    i think i only ever saw one swimming pool, its next to camping zeeburg. you get to use the pool for free if you stay at the campsite i think. it looked pretty nice. on another note. if you like camping, then camping zeeburg is a really great place. theres always laodsa people there, they have a really nice restaurant and bar and a great shop. the showers are always clean. its about 15 mins out of the city on the tram. but i really enjoyed the tram ride i felt i saw more of amsterdam than just the inner city.
    hope that helped a little

    If you want to go to the ocean I think you can best go to 'zandvoort aan zee') zandvoort at the sea' by train. It'll take you about 30 minutes by train and the trainticket (back and forth) will cost 8.20 euro.

    Here are some links to swimmingpools in Amsterdam:
    http://www.mirandabad.nl/
    http://www.marnixbad.nl/
    http://www.optisport.nl/sloterparkbad/

    Here is a link with nearly all swimmingpools in the country. Check the province 'Noord Holland' for swimmingpools close to Amsterdam:
    http://zwembad.pagina.nl/

    There is also a pretty big themepark-swimming-thing called 'Duinrell'. It's 'europes biggest indoor slide complex'. You'll have to go by train but since it's a small country it won't take you too long probably. Here is the website (in english!).. choose 'tikipool':

    http://www.duinrell.nl/duinrell_en/index.htm

    Some Dutch words related to this:

    zwembad = swimmingpool
    openingstijden = times that they are open
    tarieven = costs
    binnenbad = indoor pool
    buitenbad = outdoor pool
    vrijzwemmen = pool open for everyone (no lessons)
    lessen = lessons
    algemeen = general
    nieuws = news

    I haven't been to any of them (not terribly fond of water ;)) so unfortunately no personal experience.

    If you'd like to know more just ask, since most of the links I gave ya are in Dutch! Also if you want to go to Duinrell, I can figure out how to get there (since you probably have to go by train ànd bus and it doesn't give clear public transport directions on the site).

    Have fun!

    I've been to the Duinrell water park and theres nothing better than getting stoned then scaring the shit out of yourself on some huge, fast water slides, you need to get a train to Den Haag then a bus to Wassenaar (Off season) or there is a bus straight to the park in the high season :)

    At this time of year swimming in the canals is very popular but take your clogs off first and leave the large 'round' of Edam cheese on the pavement with a warning triangle so nobody trips over it.
