Jimmy Carter, who passed away recently, was one of those rare American and world leaders who made a positive impact in his country and the world in both the presidential and especially the post-presidential phases of his life.

He won the Nobel peace prize in 2002 for his humanitarian efforts around the world through his NGO Carter Center and which played a major role in eliminating the dreaded guinea worm disease . Hence he is remembered with respect and affection around the world.

He was noted for his work on peace and wanted the US to be a leader of peace rather than the world's largest supplier of weapons.

He had also expressed his concerns over American democracy and felt that it has become an oligarchy instead.

He was a truly decent man who also believed in the separation of government and religion.

I think he actually embodied what Christians should be and acted morally, unlike the phony, unthinking ones of today.

Jimmy Carter advocated and worked for creating homes for homeless people during and after his presidency, with his own skills and labor , setting an example through personal leadership. Even in his eighties when people of his age would be in elderly retirement homes, Carter worked on creating homes for the homeless.
