People think The Outcast, Star Trek TNG S5E17 was the first show in the Star Trek series about the theme of homosexuality and being gay. But it really wasn't because they didn't address that issue directly at all. That show wasn't about homosexuality at all and certainly wasn't about human sexuality in any event. I do give the producers of the show some credit for it, but it could have been more daring.

I also like what cast member Jonathan Frakes said in an interview once. He said if they really wanted to be daring they should have made his costar male not female. Riker and Soren kiss in one scene, so Frakes was saying he wouldn't have minded kissing a man. He is heterosexual, so that really shows strength of character and security in your own sexuality in my opinion.

Yeah, Star Trek. The stories were universal and you could interpret them in many ways. And since all the people were alien races, they could never be accused of inaccurately portraying someone.
