Recently I was doing some legit research online when an article came up which I found fascinating. An organisation is carrying out research into patterns of masturbation among men (later to be extended to women) to establish variations in the frequency, nature and experience of masturbatory sex according to demographics like age, social status, education, etc and to see how these patterns and outcomes change over time. To do this they are asking men to record key details of every time they masturbated for three months with an option to later extend this to six months. I don't know how these respondents were recruited, whether they were enlisted or responded to an invitation or advert or whether they are still open for recruits but over 200 are currently involved. Each man is sent details of the research and what it required and how to submit the information online. There were two stages. First they answered a survey asking for demographics including age, social status, ethnicity, occupation, location, marital/relationship status and then a more detailed sexual survey which covering sexual orientation, family background and religion, attitudes to sex and masturbation when growing up, when they first began masturbating, adult attitudes to masturbation, guilt, frequency of masturbation, how they masturbated, use of pornography etc. Once this information was successfully submitted they began to log details of every time they masturbated for 3 month commencing from the first submission. When the 3 months were over if they did not want to extend for a further 3 months their participation in the programme ended. The next post is the information they were asked to submit via an online portal each time they had solo sex.

Here's my personal response to the question - Assuming that the recording and sharing of my own masturbatory activity is anonymous and confidential as it is in this research, I would be more than happy to do so especially as the outcomes of the research will be informative and beneficial to us all. I know I would actively enjoy communicating about my sexual experiences and that this information would be of considerable benefit. I am sure that just the activity would provide personal insight and have be beneficial to me. So much so that I have started to keep a personal masturbation journal. Would any of you do the same? But being the age that I am I grew up in a restrictive negative culture where a powerful, natural, activity with numerous benefits was considered perverse and taboo. The result is that I enjoy and benefit from 'talking' about my masturbation experiences on a forum like this I have have never been able to talk openly about my masturbation with other people except sexual partners and would find it very difficult to be interviewed even online.
I don't know if I could manage to record every time or every detail, but I'm sure that I could get enough data in several months. I don't think that it would necessarily be beneficial for me, but if it helps someone else I would be happy to share my data. Yes I would be willing and happy to discuss my masturbation details and issues with someone face to face!!!

As a teen with a thrice-or-more-a-day masturbation habit, I started keeping a logbook of my solo sex exploits. The entries were coded with numbers and recorded most of the data in the above format.
