Favorite Rock Singers

I worked for Atlantic Records. I started out as a contract staff in the Royalties department before eventually getting hired as permanent staff working for the Executives.

In my first week as a contract staff, I was assigned to the Royalties department. I was doing work at my desk when I hear a voice in a British accent say, "I want to thank you for your hard work". I look up and it's Robert Plant. Holy shit. My first week.

In my ten years there, I ran into him several times. He was always the nicest gentleman. Before you could say anything, he would already say hello and ask you about his day. Great guy. I'm thinking, this guy is a R&R legend and yet, he's nice to everyone and asking about their day.

While working for the Executives, I had to do a lot of different things. Some bad (deliver money/drugs/hookers, etc) and some ordinary things. On 2 separate occasions, I had to get a phone and a guitar for Jimmy Page. Not even a thank you nor a word from him. He was more like you would imagine from someone of his status.

I like Rush. To be honest though, I was kind of bored seeing them live. They sounded good, but the stage show was kind of dull imo. I remember the first time thinking, I could have just stayed home and listened to them loudly. No knock against their music which is pretty great.

 

That is awesome that you got to experience that. From what I have seen of Jimmy Page (years later, on screens at home), I would expect that from him. I enjoy hearing your stories! Have you seen Pink Floyd live? They're another of my favorite bands and I am wondering if their shows were really as trippy as people say. Id love to have gone to one of their shows especially.

 

I love Pink Floyd, but unfortunately not. I did go see Roger Waters though.

My first concert was The Clash opening for the Who. Quite the good one for my first concert imo.

How did you get into all these classic rock bands at your age?

 

I am and have always been a weird, strange person. I was bullied as a kid because I was the weird kid.

I listened to older relatives' music but I am the only one of us who likes Rush. I like the lyrical meanings of classic rock, trippiness (like with Pink Floyd), the beat/tempo/etc makes my mood feel amazing, and I love the experimental things they did on stage (or on recordings) that worked out so well.

Lifelong classic rock fan, I would consider myself. I was always the weird kid and unfortunately and hated for it.

I have always been proud of my music taste however, and always will be. I never felt ashamed for that. Also, I like other decades' music in general, some songs/singers here and there, but the bands I mentioned are my favorites and always will be.

 

Nothing wrong with being different, but unfortunately that makes you an easy target for all the idiots and bullies.

I was the kid into rock when everyone else was into disco. I don't mind being different, but it's not fun when they bully you.

Anyway, you have good taste.

 

I agree that I have good taste. And so do you! That was one "weird" thing about myself as a kid that I never actually felt ashamed of. Self-conscious? Yes. But never ashamed.
