It's another example of Trump working hard for the American people. Appealing a ruling that would have restored food assistance in full during a government shutdown while Trump has extravagant parties at Mar-a-Lago and builds his Big Balls Ballroom at the White House.

 

Trump defending his perceived infinite authority from a perceived attack on him by the courts is more important to him than food assistance to his supporters.

Some of his supporters may still be praising him for fighting the issue in court as they go hungry.

It's the behavioral psychology experiment. Will the monkey in the experiment leave the warm fuzzy fake mama doll to go to the cold, hard-wire monkey doll that has the bottle of milk.

Which means more to a person.

By withholding hundreds of millions of dollars in grants, Trump has extorted $30 million from Cornell to give to American farmers after he injured them with his tariffs.

It's U.S. taxpayer money that should have went to Cornell and is instead going to farmers to nurse their injuries he inflicted onto them.

Cornell also gave in to a litany of Trump's demands including that it disavow diversity, equity, and inclusion and not allow transgender people in women's sports.

Cornell University said on Friday that it reached a deal with the Trump administration to restore hundreds of millions of dollars worth of research funds the government cut earlier this year.

The university will directly pay the federal government $30 million over three years "as a condition for ending pending claims that have been brought against the university," the university's president Michael I. Kotlikoff, said in a letter to students and faculty. Cornell will also invest $30 million over three years in "research to strengthen U.S. agriculture," and benefit U.S. farmers, he said.

 

It's questionable whether Trump even has the authority to impose such a wide range of exhorbitant tariffs in the first place, let alone whether he can refund a portion of it to the public without Congress involved.

The Supreme Court is currently hearing arguments about the first point. If it disagrees with Trump, he will have to refund the money regardless of what he wants to do (assuming he would even comply with any court ruling).

 

CA Democrats can potentially pick up about 5 House seats to counter Trump's current pickup of about 8 seats due to his multi-state gerrymandering crusade.

Democrats are at a disadvantage in Trump's war because some blue states like CA have safeguards that require the public to first vote on and approve a redistricting measure before it can be implemented.

Trump has garnered potential extra seats for the GOP House by having governors of red states unilaterally call for redistricting sessions in red-controlled legislatures.

 

If the numerous Democratic wins across various states in the November 2025 elections are any indicator of a shift away from Trump, the GOP is going to need much more than an extra eight seats via gerrymandering to maintain control of the House.
