Native Vee--please report to the nearest police station and confess to wishing people a merry christmas. Consider yourself under arrest.

And in conclusion, I'm not offended when they say Merry Christmas. I'm offended when they are rude and don't give me service. If they want to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah or Happy Phileas Fogg Day I'd probably never notice anyways.

There are some folk who just look for things that they can call offensive. In the case of Merry Christmas these may be few in number by hey, far right types and the gutter press sure do blow it out of proportion. I have friends who are Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Atheist and Wiccan. None take offence. I'm Wiccan myself and still wish people Merry Christmas. Having said that I have seen some Wiccans blow a fuse at the mere mention of Christ. Respect is a big part of being Wiccan as is recognising a free mind and those very few recognise neither.

Well stopping the tradition of Zwarte Piet would be a lot like not saying Merry Christmas. So it's relevant to the thread topic.

You lose the cultural history to be politically correct. If one wants to be politically correct they should acknowledge all the sins of the past, including colonization.

But I guess you now have Sooty Piet who is not black. That's like saying "happy holidays". Lol.

That reminds me of when my great-great-great-great grandmother sat in the witch trial at Salem, and those witches were making her turn her head in an unusual manner!

Every year we celebrate how she brought those evil witches to justice!

Yes, one of the houses that belonged to one of the witches was gifted to her, along with all of their ill-gotten wealth, and it is still in our family today!

(Now some might say that it was just a trick that she did to get that house and all that wealth, and that those were not witches at all, but a group of innocent women who she was jealous of. And to that I say, HOW WOULD YOU LIKE AN EVIL WITCH TO MAKE YOUR HEAD TURN IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS IN A COURT OF LAW? WOULD YOU LIKE THAT? WOULD YOU? YEAH! THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!)

    Lol.
See that's what's wrong with Xmas.
It's religious, it's economic, it's social, and now it's political.

That's why millions won't be spending Xmas with their extended families this year.

It's been hijacked by Trump and MAGA to spread their sick propaganda about innocent people they scapegoat, their lies, their blind cult worship, and their endless conspiracies.

Oh let's not forget the vast, ever expanding grift and corruption, that MAGA supports and exploits, even on Xmas.

You better get those Trump ornaments for your tree before they sell out! Only $47 each!

Yes----exactly! That's why it is a political scam to say that you can't say Merry Christmas, or that there is a war on Christmas.

I learned a long time ago while living and traveling overseas----such things as Christmas and other such holidays is a cultural thing. I'm not Christian. But I say Merry Christmas, and I don't mind people saying Merry Christmas to me. I enjoy Christmas and I decorate and participate in the festivities. I grew up in, and currently live in a culture that is largely built in Judeo-Christian tradition. You don't have to be Christian to celebrate. And anyone that thinks you do, or that there is a war on Christmas is weaponizing their christianity through politics.

Let's not forget that Christmas is actually a celebration of the winter solstice, December 21 or 22, and has been celebrated since the Neolithic age, (7000 BC).
The Roman Saturnalia Festival was held from December 17th to December 24th.

Actually changing "sinterklaas" is not that bad, just the way it is done/forced.........it actually already changed. In my youth if you did bad stuff, you got the "roe" or was put in the "zak", you dont see these things anymore, without to much fuss.

A bunch of screaming adults(both sides) at a kids party............who are just ther to watch the Sint and some piet bringing presents(sigh)

Yes, and there is a lot of European pagan influence in it as well. The Christmas Tree is very shamanic and hails back to a tradition of the Axis Mundi that goes back even into the paleolithic. There was evidence that in the paleolithic, the World Tree was represented by sticking a tree in the ground, roots up, and placing a skull at the top of it. In the original Nutcracker Suite, the Christmas Tree was magical and grew upwards. Santa does not come down the tree, but he places the presents underneath them---the portal of the axis mundi having been changed to a chimney. But in many Eurasian shamanic traditions, many of which are still practiced today in parts of Central Asia, the tree which the Shaman climbs upwards to the sky is inside the dwelling or yurt, and sticks out of the chimney in the ceiling (being a very old type of chimney that would have been placed above the family hearth where the fire for warmth and cooking was prior to the use of a fireplace.

Then there is the connection between Santa and the red amanita mushroom with white dots. This hallucinogen was a part of shamanic traditions as well, and again, is still used in Central Asia.

And speaking of Shamanic traditions, and Central Asia, here is a Central Asian Indigenous band, singing a song that refers to the ancient indigenous connection between the peoples of Central and East Asia, and Alaska:
