The responsibility for procreation is the responsibility of the two people engaging in sex. We cannot rely on the religious industry to make common sense decisions on outcomes. The need to utilize abortions to replace birth control is absolutely irresponsible. The responsibility to educate youths to make is necessary is the responsibility of the government to legislate without interference from backward people in the religious community. The use of birth control medication and devices should be mandatory, financed by parents until the time until adulthood. Since the government ends up with the financial roll of supporting unwed mothers and their offspring, there should be a procedure to find the father and make them responsible for supporting the offspring until the the age of 18. In the case of rape, no avenue for support, fetuses with major physical defects, and abortion is the only solution, the decision for an abortion should be made by a local Board of Health decision in a court venue. There is a lot of blame to go around but the religious community needs to realize that sex between young adults is inevitable, especially since in history the age of consent was much younger. What is going on now is totally unacceptable.
WTAF!! Of course you're entitled to your opinion but let's just think of women in all this! Accidents happen and there's absolutely no contraception thats 100% reliable. In the case of any child being born, the biological father should pay financially. The decision over what to be done with a pregnancy is for the woman alone, to decide. I've responded to some of your posts - particularly the parts that aren't incoherent.
I'll only address this part, because I'm terrified by it, and I can't imagine how terrified an even younger girl might be. Establishing any institutions to decide for others is a disgusting idea. It's like something out of the worst totalitarian nightmares or extreme religious societies
My Only comment is "does the current system work and can the welfare system to support unwed mothers, and protect them from sexual predators?"
If something is not working properly, it does not mean that something needs to be changed for the worse
Hi Olivia: We are dealing with human beings. The fact is that Abortion kills a human being who might be a successful citizen. Leonardo Divinchi and Caesar Augustus were born out of wedlock. If single mothers were supported by the government and the fathers were held financially responsible for paying for his indiscretions things might work out better. Using abortion is an alternative for irresponsible behavior should be a crime. Abortion should be an option for cases wherein the newborn will be unfit for prospering in the society. The decisions need to be part of a professional decision making process, not the desperation made by a teenager abandoned by her parents. I was a teenage boy many years ago and took many self serving risks because i was irresponsible. Fortunately I did not procreate a child with my female friends.
You write terrible things, you want to decide for young girls, it's disgusting. And the worst part is that you believe you're right. You don't
I grew up in Wisconsin in the 60’s and there was was a real effort to keep contraceptives out of the hands of young men and women and especially unmarried people. The system was enforced by pharmacists who had the power to withhold contraceptives from anyone who didn’t meet the requirements. What a sick system and the results were predictable with widespread teen pregnancies resulting in inappropriate high school marriages, young people dropping out of high school and poverty. Young women often paid the highest price. Perversely the conservative and religious groups that kept the system in place restricted both contraceptives and abortions. No choices. Of course women of all ages should be able to make choices for their bodies with social support and compassion. Abstinence was not an intelligent or working alternative.
