    https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/08/us/minnesota-ice-shooting-prosecution.html

    excerpt:

"There is also legal precedent, in previous cases in Michigan and Idaho, that suggests federal law enforcement officers are shielded from state charges by the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution. That means any case that brings charges against the agent is likely to face scrutiny from a judge.

And on the state level, despite the successful prosecution of Derek Chauvin, the police officer who was convicted in 2021 of murdering George Floyd in Minneapolis, prosecutors across the country are often reluctant to charge law enforcement officers with serious crimes because juries are historically unwilling to convict."

Trump's ICE agents have been slipping and falling on the ice in Minnesota. It's obvious they haven't been prepared and given the proper clothing for snow and ice.

Trump should have been messing with Minnesota in the summer instead of Los Angeles. He planned it backward.

Trump is ten steps ahead of everyone.

Noem didn't speak at Trump cabinet meeting that was unusually brief by Trump's standards. Trump usually loves to boast about ICE.

Trump didn't allow questions from reporters at the end of the meeting.

Noem sheepishly made a statement this week that maybe her initial remarks about federal agents killing Pretti weren't the best.

Trump sheepishly made a statement that perhaps Bovino is a little too 'out there'.

U.S. trade deficit increases 95% in November.

U.S. Trade Deficit Widens Despite Trump’s Tariffs
The monthly trade deficit and imports rebounded in November after shrinking significantly in prior months, new data show.
    By Ana Swanson
    Jan. 29, 2026

    excerpt:

"The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services rebounded to $56.8 billion in November, rising 95 percent from the previous month as President Trump’s tariffs continued to cause huge fluctuations in trade, according to data from the Commerce Department released on Thursday.

Exports fell 3.6 percent in the month, to $292.1 billion, led by declining outbound shipments of gold, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods and crude oil. Imports rose 5 percent in November, to $348.9 billion, as Americans bought foreign pharmaceuticals as well as equipment to fill new data centers. The combination pushed up the monthly trade deficit, the gap between what the United States imports and what it exports."

Trump has gutted funding for the IRS. That will set the stage for even less safeguards at the IRS for which he is now suing it.

Trump intensifies his trade war with Canada.

He has already threatened 100% tariffs on Canada if it makes a deal with China.

Trump says he’s decertifying Canada-made aircraft and threatens 50% tariffs
By Ramishah Maruf and Chris Isidore
    January 29, 2026

    https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/29/business/trump-canada-aircraft-tariff

    excerpt:

"Just hours earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he expects Trump to “respect Canadian sovereignty” after reports that Alberta separatists met with US officials. And a few days earlier, Trump threatened a 100% tariff on America’s second-biggest trading partner if it struck a trade deal with China.

It is unclear whether Trump has the legal authority to decertify aircraft; the White House has not released an executive order on any Canadian aircraft tariffs. Trump did not specify any mechanisms to decertify the planes in his post."

    excerpt:

No president has ever decertified jets directly. The decision has always been left up to aviation safety experts at the Federal Aviation Administration, said Richard Aboulafia, managing director of industry consulting firm AeroDynamic Advisory.

“Using aircraft safety as a tool in a trade war is just an incredibly bad idea,” he said.

Senator asks Trump for details on Rolex he accepted before Swiss tariff deal

    excerpt:

"Over the last year, Trump has publicly accepted a gold crown from South Korea, a 24-karat gold and glass plaque from Apple CEO Tim Cook, the “FIFA Peace Prize” from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, a gold pager from Israel, a portrait from Russian President Vladimir Putin of the leaders together and a $400 million luxury Boeing 747 jet from Qatar to serve as the new Air Force One, before being transferred to his presidential library."

Senator demands answers after Trump accepted Rolex and gold bar before slashing tariffs on Switzerland
Trump’s love of lavish gifts is well known and many are displayed in the Oval Office

Senator asks Trump for details on Rolex he accepted before Swiss tariff deal

    excerpt:

"President Donald Trump is being asked to provide more information about the Rolex watch and gold bar he accepted from Swiss businessmen last year, shortly before agreeing to lower tariffs on Swiss goods, by the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee.

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden is seeking more details to determine whether the president violated laws by accepting the gifts before cutting the deal, according to the letter seen by Bloomberg.

In November, a delegation of Swiss businessmen visited the White House to speak with Trump after he imposed a 39 percent tariff on Swiss goods. Shortly thereafter, a Rolex table clock, which does not appear to be available for purchase by the general public, appeared on the president’s desk.

In addition, a custom gold bar was displayed on the Resolute Desk, worth more than $130,000, according to Wyden’s office."

Trump’s America is descending into anarchy. He has tapped into people's rage

    excerpt:

"The model for this is President Dwight D Eisenhower’s decision, in 1957, to send troops to Little Rock, Arkansas, to enforce school desegregation. The governor at the time used the Arkansas National Guard to prevent nine black children from entering an all-white school. Eisenhower ordered troops to escort them to class and used the Insurrection Act to federalise the Guard without facing a legal challenge.

The presence of the highly trained regular army ensured the Guard “knuckled under”, as Finkelstein put it, rather than staying loyal to the governor."

During the civil rights era in the 50's and 60's, the federal government was protecting DEI.

Today Trump is using federal forces to dismantle DEI.

Trump’s America is descending into anarchy. He has tapped into people's rage

    excerpt:

Finkelstein pointed out that Trump has already tried to federalise the National Guard in Minnesota but has been blocked by the Supreme Court. The Insurrection Act gives a president much stronger authority to do this. “We’re running a risk of almost forcing him to go with the Insurrection Act,” she said.

Article about how experment was performed in 2024 that assesses how a civil war could start in the U.S.

Trump’s America is descending into anarchy. He has tapped into people's rage

    excerpt:

"The mayhem on the streets of Minnesota these days – heavily armed ICE agents battling furious protesters – looks like a scene from the film. Some are now seriously asking if the US is on the path to civil war.

In 2024, the University of Pennsylvania conducted an exercise to game out how a conflict within the US might begin. Those taking part included former government officials and military officers. What they imagined was strikingly similar to the events now unfolding in Minneapolis.

In the exercise, a violent confrontation develops between state and federal forces in Philadelphia. It begins when the president of the day orders a controversial operation to detain undocumented migrants, despite opposition from the mayor and the governor. He attempts to federalise Pennsylvania’s National Guard but the governor resists. The Guard stays loyal to the state and the president then sends in the regular army. The result is an armed conflict between state and federal forces: civil war."
